Considering getting this but I find it so pricey just for a film. Would it be better just to wax the video?

I just have a 2018 civic hatchback touring. It's not a Type R or anything

Honestly if you're doing a lot of highway driving, I would do it. $1000 is a bit high though, I would shop around. We had a 2015 RAV4 done (bumper, fenders, hood and mirrors) for $695 and it was the XPEL brand IIRC. This is something I will most likely be getting when I get my Si, since I do about 90% highway (16k miles a year). The paint is extremely soft and thin on Honda's, so doesn't take much to chip and scratch them up.

That is a bit high, but you’re in the Big Smoke, right?
I’m 20 minutes as the crow flies from Woodstock and had my tints & PPF done there for just over $850.
PPF on the hood, fenders, entire front bumper, A pillars and front of the roof up to the sunroof.

I had my front bumper, hood, fenders, front portion of roof, inside of door handles, door edges and mirror caps done for ~1500. It was expensive but I found a guy that I trusted and it turned out pretty good. If you have a darker color civic then you will notice imperfections easier. It actually adds a nice gloss to the car as well.

My main reason for getting it for my CBP '18 Si is due to the soft paint, and I do a lot of highway driving. I owned a 2017 LX Civic last year (also CBP) and it had so many rock chips on the front of the car after 6 months of driving. I am a bit of a perfectionist so that amount of rock chips started to drive me crazy.

If you do a decent amount of highway driving and hate the idea of rock chips, then it is a must-have IMO.

I had my whole front - hood grill fenders, doors and rear corners done as well as A pillars and roof front. In th course of two weeks a large plastic something flew up off interstate and hit the side of my car and yesterday a sheet of fiberglass sheetrock or the like flew up and smacked into front. All I have to do is get some meguiars PlastX to buff scuffs on headlight cover( those get filmed after that) and my paint wasn’t damaged. So glad I did it. The film guy said the scuffs on the film from the fiberglass should heal themselves in the sun if not he’ll give me a break on replacing it.

When I got the 10th gen Touring sedan I went for a highly discounted film package that I negotiated with the dealer for under $400. I now have film covering the roofline, half the hood, the side mirrors, A pillars, and the entire front bumper minus fog lights and black trim. This was well worth it. Every weekend in the summer the car would be covered with bugs (because I drive a lot of highway miles) and where they impact the plastic I can just scrub off with a scrub pad and not have to worry about damaging the paint. It is a major convenience. The film itself is hardy and puts up well against assaults. My Civic is WOP and the film discoloration shows a little, but no big deal.

Same highway miles on my previous 8th gen Civic, and the hood, pillar, and headlight lenses were pitted from stone impacts and scuffed due to having to use a mitt so frequently because a pressure washer wouldn't get all the bugs off.

And trust me, a pressure washer, even the one at car washes, will not take everything off your car.

It is worth it if you are going to do a lot of highway driving and you can get a good deal. The product itself lasts when applied properly and professionally. 2 harsh Canadian winters with mine and they are not even peeling off.

I personally would hate to see a WOP, ABM, or LSM with paint damage due to bugs and stone chips.:spaz:

I would not spend that much money to protect the cheap paint job on a Civic, but it also depends on what kind of roads you drive on and how long you plan to keep the car.

With as brittle as our paint is, if I could go back I would have done it, I even ceramic coated mine and I still have around 75 chips in the front of my car, had it a year this week, and just over 34k miles, front is BAD! I will be doing paint resto on the front and sealing it again, and probably be doing Plastidip with sprayer on the car to help protect the original paint after I do the paint resto, taht way it will look good in 5 years... I would recommend getting the self healing 3m.

What work are you having done for 1k? Go with Suntek or Xpel. I didnt care for 3M and found out they don't even make their own.
Its worth getting done imo. I have a sport. I got Xpel and did full bumper, full grill, full hood and fenders, front lip, a-pillars, 8" across front of roof , mirrors, door cups, door edges, door sills, and side skirts done. It was 1700 and about 8 hrs of work. The guy is good and does many high end cars.

I would skip it. I wouldn’t trust dealer protections anyway. Have a reputable detailer apply a clear bra. If this is a leased vehicle or a car your gonna unload in a couple of years I would not bother.

I would highly recommend the investment, with the terrible quality paint Honda uses on today's cars it will help protect your car a lot. My 2017 has more paint damage then any car I've ever owned and my past cars were 5-10 years old.

I just bought an Si and the dealer wanted $795 for the protector which I am guessing is XPEL as that's what was in the next column. Not sure if it is full body or what but I'm going to call and find out for sure.

I plan on keeping for only for 1 or 2 years for either a supra or when the redesigned Si releases. I do about 60% city 40% highway driving and now worried with all the posts of cheap paint. lol

Should I worry about putting XPEL on the car? Kinda want to get tent as it seems like none on the Si compared to my GenCoupe

If you bought the car AND plan on keeping it for say 5 to 10 years, go for it. I got this on a BMW M235i; front bumper, hood, front fenders, a pillars and on the roof, between the windshield and sunroof and front facing rear view mirror, plus inside door pulls and below gas fill opening. The good quality film will "auto repair" in the summer sun, to close small voids.

Absolutely worth it. I have the whole front end/headlights, bumper, fender, full hood, Apillars and roof wrapped in Xpel, money well spent.

I'd just get the front end done (whole front end with bumper) and halfway up the hood.

$1,000 is way too much unless they're doing the whole car, but you don't need the whole car.

If you rarely drive highway you really don't need it at all......it's the cement and rock and gravel trucks that do the most damage to fronts of cars.
