After installing mine, the first start up the drone was really bad. I wanted to uninstall it the next day but I gave it a couple of days of regular driving and it started to sound better. I think it just needs to break in. You'll still get a lil drone around 3k rpm.

I’ve thought about putting some dyno mat material in the spare tire area to reduce the noise only issue with doing that is it will add weight so I’m still unsure if I’ll even try this. I will agree that the drone does come down the more this exhaust breaks in

I'll give it a wait then lol. I don't care about the 10lbs it will add for the dyno mat. I didn't seem bad this morning, but I do a lot of hwy driving :/

insulation won't help. It's those triple canisters. I have a milltek non-resonated and no drone...but my muffler is a one piece muffler with three tips coming from it.

Honestly, if you don't like the drone, time to get rid of it and look at something similar like milltek or other exhausts that have a similar muffler.

That sucks for you invidia owners though...it does look nice, I love the burnt tips

I'm catted, have to in Ontario, Canada, if I upgraded my downpipe would it help or make it worst... ?

It was as bad this morning as I had the back seats down yesterday to fit the old system and it seem a bit quieter, I'll give it sometime and kms to see if some of the droning comes down. I really like it, it would suck to go to something else.

so you don't think the insulation wouldn't help at all

It's hard for some people to believe (for whatever reason) but a car is a hollow object that vibrates and resonates due to engine and road vibrations; i.e. a drum. Whatever sound energy is not mitigated by physical means, like resonators and mufflers, will go into atmosphere and also into your car. Low frequency sound waves travel better through solids than higher frequencies so whatever low frequencies are vibrating the metal of your car is turning your car into a drum. Adding reflective and absorbing materials will only help, so using sound dampening products like FatMat or Dynamat in the back of the car will definitely help, but not completely remove it. I would suggest buying some of that material and apply it directly to the metal in the hatch under where the fix-a-flat air pump device is stored. If it doesn't work and you can't live with it, then you have two options: Make modifications to the exhaust like adding a Helmholtz chamber, or buying a different exhaust.

Saying that adding insulation won't help is incorrect; it will reduce the vibration (low frequency sound waves), but not completely remove it. Have you seen the size of the one piece muffler on the Miltek? It's a very large volume. No wonder it removes the boominess inside the car.

Nicely said, I’ve got over 6K on my Invidia R400 now and the drone that was present on it is for the most part is gone now, I may try and do some material in the trunk to see if it helps but the drone is really not there anymore as far as I’m concerned or I just got used it

yea, you are going deaf and just don't realize it yet :) Just having a little fun. No question i get drone on decel. If I'm off the throttle coming down a long hill for instance, at some point, I barely touch the accelerator to clear the drone. It can be pretty deafening if it goes on for a while, for me anyway. But at highway speeds or when cruising, I don't even hear that it's there. dead quiet until I accelerate. But it's a small inconvenience. I love the sound and look of this exhaust. The gurgle and snap-pop I get on gear changes (especially downshifts!) and on decel remind me of Z06's and Mini Cooper JCW's. A wonderful, deep sound. And from outside the car, it's really great. I love going under a bridge with the windows down...

Only had mine on for about 2 thousand miles so as Rocky says, at 6k or so, it might die down a little with mileage.
