I have great news. Take it to any Acura dealership. They have the machine. It was required for the NSX. 20inch low profile tire. So. Go there instead of Honda. A Porsche dealer has it. Audi. Dealer. Those are the 3 I know of
My Honda dealer is attached to a BMW dealer, so they carry my wheel(s) down there when they need to mount a tire.

I think someone posted something about this already, but here's the official statement. FYI on these tire machines, they are like $30,000 and I'm told they constantly go down due to the sensors getting out of line or going bad. Doubtful any dealer is buying this machine just for one car they might see come in to their service center once in a years time. We do tire changes on the Pilot and Ridgeline 20" wheels all the time and never scratch up the wheels with our regular Hunter machines so I don't know why Honda would send a bulletin out like this, but I guess they're "looking out for us." :dunno:

While this is not the run of the mill steel wheel you don't need a $30,000 tire changer to change this wheel. Coats changes it pretty easily without rim or tire damage on the 90X. See the attached video link. Save yourself tens of thousands and get a machine that does the job.

Funny this is brought back up but I work at a Honda dealer and the other day a customer showed up with a type r that had a flat tire and a chunk out of another rim and a slash in that tires sidewall. Insurance claim covered the rim and two tires, so me being adventurous decided I would see if I could change the tires myself using the bad rim and tire as an experiment. Turns out if you have a machine with a hydraulic arm that can press the bead down you don’t even need a lever less machine you just need to be careful and think of it like a puzzle. I ended up changing both the tires on the customers car and now I can change my own when the time comes.

I took my car to a new discount tire near my house for tire repair. They took off two tires and remounted them without damaging the wheels. I don't think they have that machine.

So I took the Type R into discount tire today and I expressed my concerns about the trouble of other shops getting the continental tires off. They said no problem and they took the car in and started working on it. The manager was the one taking off the tire and even let me watch! He did say say it was a little difficult trying to get them off without hitting them, but he said it was because of the way the rim is designed. He got them on and off with no problem but he did have to use a lot of tire lube/grease. I’ve included pictures of the all seasons and the rims are in perfect condition. They didn’t have that special machine that Honda says you need, so it can be done on other machines. Just let the tire tech know that it will be a little tough for them to get off, so they know about it ahead of time. BTW those markings on the wheels are tire lube, which will wash off

I've had my stock tires replaced by the local Firestone dealer with no issues and then Honda took out a nail and did a patch when I went in for my first service. I think all these dumb lifted trucks on big dumb wheels are making it easier for places to mount bigger rims.

and yes, I absolutely hate trucks that have no other purpose other than to be a total d*bag on the roads. it's Florida, they know no bounds.
I just got new 20" Michelin Pilot Sports at Big O Tires,..to replace the original worn-out Conti's,..they didn't seem to have any probs. The tires were great at Laguna Seca.

I had a huge nail in my stock tire on Sunday which somehow did not affect the tire pressure (I noticed it while cleaning the car). With almost all vehicle shops closed in the Bible belt at the time, the only shop open was the local dealership, so I took the car in to see if it could be patched. They were able to patch the tire, but they were unfortunately also able to scratch the heck out of my rim and then joy-drive it around for 5 miles.

The shop was closing as I took the car back, so I will try to get it handled today in some substantive fashion. The magnanimous R owner in me wants to help the dealership's services division and allow them to train all of their employees on this now-scratched rim so that it never happens again. As long as they buff it out and re-paint it, I could be fine with that. But I will go in guns blazing if they try to get out of fixing it. And there's no chance I'm leaving my car unattended with them ever again.

I used the discount tire near me and it looks like a got a tiny scratch on one wheel. I talked to the manager so I am going to see what they can do. I was going to have ceramic coating done anyway, so a minor pain correction shouldn't be a big deal.
