Difficulty starting car

Car is only 3 weeks old but a few times i've gone to cold start it and the engine turns over for 5-6 seconds before starting weakly. Usually it roars to life in about a second but i'd say 3 times in 3 weeks this has happened.

It sounds similar to a weak battery barely having enough amps/voltage to start a car...except this is a brand new car and 9/10 times it starts right up. I have not gotten the battery tested yet.

Anyone having this issue? Ideas on what could be the problem?

I'd take it into the dealer and see what they can find. Anything like that would be covered under a warranty anyways.

I created a thread if you look at my profile with similiar issue.


My 18 SI a few times, has made the "cranking" sound for 5-10 seconds. Like 7+ failed "crank noise" attempts..

Honestly im not worried cause of 100k warranty. This i feel is Push to start is extremely finicky. In my whole life ive never had a shitty car that wouldnt turn on in 2-3 crank attempts.

When this happened on my 18 Si i was super annoyed. But omce hearing that Alot of people experince this. Its whatever now.



Also mine did it within first month of owning it.

It’s not the push to start.

the very few times i may have noticed this i have rooted the cause to the car rolling backwards in a foreword gear (parked and off ) when i have not made sure the parking was not engaged. i live on a nice hill. i have a lx with a mt so might not be the same problem as yours. also up to 10 seconds would be way long in my case...... about the time you think wtf it starts.

Bought a battery tester/alternator tester ( https://www.amazon.com/Motopower-MP...D+Display+LED+Indication+-+Black+Rubber+Paint)

I am getting perfectly normal readings from my battery and alternator. I believe it read something around 12 when the engine wasn't running and around 14 when it was. At least in my case this probably rules out a battery problem or a charging problem.

I did take the readings after a 20 minute drive... would it have been much different first thing in the morning? Not sure. I will have to try that when I get a moment.

Hasn't done the slow cranking start in over a week, but i've never had a car do this before. I really hope this doesn't get any worse and lead to them ripping the car apart to find the electrical issue responsible. crossing fingers.

Any one else experience this ? Mine just started doing this and I’m at 4K miles . Its only done it once but i thought it was strange for a new car.

Yes, my 19 has done it twice with under 600 miles on it. From these forums, seems like a normal oddity for this car and I’m not going to worry about it, personally.
