Currently working on modeling a wide body kit in CG for an in house social media project. Thought i'd share my current progress. If you guys have any suggestions or want to see the rest of my progress, please don't hesitate to comment! This is just a work in progress and nothing is final yet. I actually have a friend with the ability to 3d print large objects so if the model turns out well, I may actually print out a mold and adapt it for my own hatchback!

I would love a wide body kit for my 2018 Civic hatchback.

I wish I could learn how to do this stuff, it is pretty cool.
I work for a cgi house/post production company. Most of what I do is product related so it's nice to do something like this on the side for fun. It's still maybe 1/3 way done so lots of details missing. The cool part is i'll probably end up actually 3d printing this kit out and hopefully someone will purchase it and run it. I've been chatting with a buddy of mine that runs a body shop who restores old Z's and he's been giving me input on how to make it functional as well ( ie i'm hoping to add/run ducts for brake cooling as well as reinforce the front and rear diffusers to be functional at speed).

Again, if you have any feedback, post up and i'll try and incorporate the changes!

How do you import the car model like that? Is it something you recreate or is it a template?

My main focus is look and material development and modeling. I usually get cad data from the manufacturer to work off of, so it's a model usually developed by OEM cad engineers. You can find low poly models online everywhere from sites like turbosquid or squir. Main thing to look out for is how detailed the models are.. ie do they have detailed engines, interior, materials included, etc..

This looks awesome, if it was purchasable, I'd invest. I want to widebody my sedan sometime way down the line so this is a great start of what to look at. Is there a reason you went with the hard line right at the end of front fenders. Is it because you can't open to doors otherwise? Is there a way we can see the back of the model? I like the idea of the duck bill wing.

I'm definitely trying to make this a reality so i'll update as plans progress. The hard line at the front fender is indeed so the door can open. I'm planning a few different versions of it like one incorporating the Type R fender trim. I'll be posting up more renders as I progress and will post new renders as I do.

Outstanding work! I’d be interested in a widebody sedan kit!
