Hi All,

I've been getting mixed messages with All season tires, I know many of you have them on your aftermarket wheels or even stock. In my research, I have found two people with bad experiences with Continental DWS06, one totaled their CTR from losing control with their brakes, and another having the same issue losing control of brakes. Both were in conditions of 50-60 Degrees Fahrenheit both lost control at about 35mph, unable to stop or gain traction after braking. The latter swrved to miss the car in front and was ok. Both were experiences in with at least 25-35 mins of driving.

Another example, I spoke to a close friend who has a CTR with Ponteza Re980AS , which he had on his car for almost a year and in his experience started sliding in Winter one time after entering a corner too hot and never ran into any other issues.(this was more Driver error)

Besides these two tires, what other experiences have you had with other brands or your own experience with All season tires? thought I compile something for questions asked often by all.

Thanks!

Are you talking about All season / 3-season tire performance in winter conditions?

Personally I just mounted Toyo Celsius all-weather tires, which are rated for ice/snow. I’ve put all weathers on all my cars the last 8-10 years and generally have had success running them all year long, snow or shine. For the CTR I will run the stocks in the summer, but am perfectly happy with my all weathers.

I've been on DWS06 for a few weeks now. I haven't had anything close to what those people are describing. Losing control of brakes? What? That's like a lawsuit, not a product con.

I find these to be quite grippy and they fade predictably - it's easy to inch towards the limit, the limit doesn't come up abruptly. Compared to the summer tires, they don't grip as well in cornering and it's easier to lose traction when you accelerate. Otherwise, they're great.

I take delivery of my CTR tomorrow. So you do suggest the Toyo? I haven't found any reviews on these bad boys, and the price scares me a little being so cheap. How is the ride and noise with them?

These are my first Toyo Celsius, I've run Nokian all-weathers on my family cars for a long time. But the Toyo's come recommended from a number of friends, and youtube reviews praise them as well. https://www.1010tires.com/Tires/Toyo/Celsius/128980

I've had them mounted for a day, but my initial impressions are positive.
It's what I expected, as most of the difference is from going from 20" to 18", 30 series to 45 series, high performance summer to all-weather general...
So the ride, is so much more smoother than stock. And I don't feel like I need to play frogger with every bump in the road. The grip, is noticeably worse than the stock summer performance tires :) Where as before I felt I could take on the world, now I don't have the same confidence taking turns at the same speed. But that's expected.

As for noise, they are fine. Having just come from the stock wheels/tires, it feels like I'm driving a cadillac now...

Oh ok I thought you had them for the stock wheels that come with? The link were for 18’s. My local Firestone has these for the CTR. For the price I’m nervous. Also for stock what the correct tire size we should use. I’ve search and see people using both 255/35-20 and 245/35-20

Ah, no sorry I mounted my winter tires onto 18" wheels and are keeping the stock wheels/tires for summer use.

Those do look insanely cheap. I'd be iffy too. But looks like they don't any for the size you'd need for the stock wheel (the $76 price is probably for 15" or something :p )

Man those rims are sick. Was actually looking for some similar for my black one. Seems like it’s better to just go with some 18’ rims for winter use. Live in TN and we get snow. What was cost for you wheel set up?

My setup was really cheap, because the wheels I bought used off craigslist and needed to be repaired and painted.
All in, wheels/tires were about $1300 Canadian after taxes and install.

Nice. Will do some search and probably go with a set up like that for the fall winter months. Thanks for the ideas brother. Going from a 2017 CSI to the 2018 CTR.

Last winter I lost control on Mich. Pilot Sport A/S 3+. It was a snow packed road, no blacktop visible, I was going around 40mph into a long slight downhill turn, as I was turning I felt like the car started to go straight, almost like hydro planing, I recovered quickly and never went out of lane.

It was definitely user error, I was going to fast on that road but after that incident I took all my corners slower and never had a problem.

On my previous car 05 Acura TL, I had Conti DWS and they performed really good on snow and wet weather but not as good on dry road compare to my A/S 3+.

I've always used Michelin A/S 3+ and never had any issues. I'm about to throw these tires on my R tomorrow. We don't get a lot of snow, just cold/wet weather.

I never had an issue with my Khumo Ecsta 4X tires on my 18x8 Enkeis. I did just fine. I'm going to end up probably getting those tires again for my Titan's if I can sell the other winter setup....might just sell the 20 factory wheels too. Tired of being on 20s
