First post here after picking up my new Civic! Fantastic forum, have learned a lot about the car. Here's a breakdown of my sale as an additional data point:

State: AZ
Trim: 2018 Civic EX Sedan w/Honda Sensing
Tranny: CVT
Color: White Orchid Pearl/Ivory
Options: None
MSRP: $23,235 (includes $895.00 destination charge)
Sell Price: $21,359.94
Sales Tax: $1666.08
Tire Tax: $5.00
Dealer Services Fee: $499.00
License Fees: $398.50
Title Fee: $4.00
Postage Fee: $3.00

Total OTD: $23,935.52

Put down $2500 on my credit card (max the dealer would allow) and took advantage of 1.9 % APR for 36 months through Honda Financial for the rest. I'm pretty happy with the purchase as it was below TrueCar average price and I didn't have to haggle thanks to AutoNation fixed pricing. I contacted several other dealers locally and in SoCal, but everyone wanted to play games and no one else came close to what I thought was a fair deal. Plus, I really wanted Honda Sensing and it doesn't seem like Honda is building many lower trim level vehicles with that option. I was trying to decide between the new Insight and the 10th gen Civic, and ultimately chose the Civic as I prefer the styling a bit more. I was going to wait to buy, but started looking once the news about the 2019 broke since I'm not a fan of the reworked styling tweaks. Looking forward to a lengthy ownership experience with this car!

if I had more time I could of done a lot better... I didn't plan on selling my car privately so fast and I flipped flop on the color I wanted and since I felt comfortable at the dealership I went with this price..

New, 2018 Civic Touring, White Orchid Pearl . Added the 72 mo / 100k warranty. Put $6,000 down. 60 months at 0.9%. When I came in, they offered me $1,000 less than MSRP. Told them there was no way that would work given that I knew they'd have new 2019 models on the lot in a matter of weeks or even days. Final price with tags, taxes, fees and the added warranty was a little north of $27,000.

What's the best way to work the dealers down without visiting them?
I've been going back and forth with dealers for a few days and have a couple out the door quotes for a 2018 sport touring hatchback at $28,200. I'm trying to get them down to $27 even.

I'm paying cash and I'm not in a rush. There are at least a dozen sport tourings within a three-hour drive of where I live.

If you're a serious buyer, tell them that if they hit the price you want you will literally do the deal that day and move forward with the purchase. That at the very least shows them that you arent wasting their time and are serious about the purchase. This will make them more likely to hit a number that you want because dealers are more likely to give a sure shot customer a better price rather than staying firm and potentially driving away the customer. Ive done this numerous times and it has always worked in my favor.

Good tips. I also want to add that paying in cash actually decreases the profit for the dealer. They get a kickback from Honda if you finance through Honda Financial. It's several hundred dollars. I noticed that going in person also helps lower the price. They know you aren't kicking the tires and sending out emails to dozens of dealers. They know you chose to come to their dealership.

There's also a number that they just can't feasibly hit for what they pay from the factory. Honda is still one of the best selling brands and aren't hurting for sales or require inventory space like other manufacturers. 27k OTD (idk your sales tax rate, 6-8%?) seems rather low for a 2018 sport touring hatch. I bet the margins on that for the dealer is razor thin if not an actual loss.

Thanks for the input.

I'm thinking that the cars aren't selling. Why do they still have 2018s in stock when 2019s are on the lot? The 2018s are a year old now. Not too many people are willing to pay $30k for a Civic.

I'll buy before the end of the month and report back.

+1 "I'm a buyer today at $27K" will get you much further.

State: WA
Trim: 2019 Civic EX Coupe
Tranny: CVT
Color: White Pearl
Options: Mudflaps only
MSRP: $24,095
Sell Price: $23500
Sales Tax: $2420 (10.3%)
Doc Fee: $150
License Fees: $699 (Should be closer to $400 before refund)
Dealer Add-On: $300 Maint (14 Full Synth oil changes over 7 years)
Down: $3500
Loan: 4.09% for 72 months at 830 credit. Payment $371

Bought what we are pretty sure is the first 2019 White EX Coupe in WA. Dealer did not have any pricing or vins in the database. Had this transferred from another dealer. I am fine with the price over a 2018 as it includes Sensing and Android Auto. My nephew is the Internet sales guy at this dealer so it was pretty transparent. We get raped on sales tax here because no income tax. I love the 2019 EX wheels. Picked it up last night (12/3)

Am I missing something here or did you get taken for a ride from your nephew?

You only got $500 off MSRP and Honda has a 2.9% 60month loan offer no money down.

With all the dealers getting the new civics in this week and Honda official releasing the 12th as the official on sale date. Please post what you bought you new civic for...out the door prices...any free accessories thrown in?

Post up your story for the others to use!
I went to the dealership and asked to see 2017 models. They had a beautiful silver ex-l coupe for 24.8k msrp. They offered 21.8k and I said no that’s right at market value so I talked them down to 20,000 for a absolute dream car with only 128 miles on it.
