Why all the complaining about 20 inch wheels?

A guy locally in the Detroit area bent his 2nd day he got the car. The roads around here combining the normal freeze/thaw cycle with really poor road maintenance(even comparing to neighboring places like Ontario or Ohio) means our potholes are no joke...literally the 2nd day I had the car I changed the wheels to 18s....

I will probably likely put close to 25000 miles on the car per year, being able to handle the roads around here is sorta important...

I just can't believe Honda wouldn't offer an alternative wheel, citing any difference in performance or exempting the almighty Ring record is fine by me, just give me an option. They could have also took in all that money instead of letting it go to the aftermarket.

These rubber band tires helps a lot with steering response/feel . You will lose some of that by going higher sidewalls. Unless you get something stiff. RE71R of that sort.

I'm not too worried about any adverse effects of smaller wheels for the street, or less grippy tires. If I were (able) to drive this car at the limit on public roads, I should be thrown in jail. I'm mostly concerned about price - I just bought some cheap wheels (don't judge me, they're reps, but I don't feel like protecting $3000 worth of wheels and tires with $4000 worth of wheels and tires) - and I'll put some 18" Falken Azenis on them because they are also cheap and I'm really familiar with how they drive.

I'm mostly annoyed the wheels are black. I HATE black wheels. And apparently, silver wheels are really hard to find anymore?

I believe 18" "factory" wheels for this type of vehicle leaves much to be desired from an aesthetics standpoint. If Honda produced 18's, there's no way they'd look like Volks or Rotis or anything like that. Plus the wheels would be produced via cast, not forged or even rotary forged. Therefore, Honda made the right call from a sales attracting standpoint by going with 20's. It strikes a reasonable balance between aesthetics and function.

Want function? Buy your own 18's and enjoy them. :) Too bad I'm already thinking about selling my car... I may already have a downpayment on a C8 Zora. LoL!

Well, holy shit this thread may have jinxed me. I absolutely drilled a pothole tonight and it hit so hard my front right wheel hopped off the ground after a BANG! I thought for sure it was bent and a flat tire coming...but somehow it survived it. I have never heard something that loud without a collision.

While I thought about selling the stockers I think I might end up keeping them for resale. Granted I have a feeling the car will be more beat at that point that the wheels won't matter...lol

I'm keeping my wheels too, but not for resale. I want to keep everything so I can at least be able to put it back to stock. I'm not doing anything irreversible, or getting rid of any non-wear parts I take off. Hell, I'm even keeping the factory foam that goes in the spare tire well that has to be removed to make room for the accessory spare. I'm never going to sell this one, but I want to always be able to put this car back to stock. I feel like it's the ideal car to be left stock in my "collection," a word my wife hates hearing.

Be careful, I hit a raised manhole Friday night, thought I broke the entire car. I pulled over and inspected the wheel, tire, etc. and all seemed fine. Sunday, the tire tread let go and I was stranded for 3.5 hours since the provided fix a flat didn't work. Honda's already replaced the tires, but my one wheel won't balance properly. I'll be ordering 18s as soon as I can find some. I run 18s on my Evo, and stock for stock it outperforms the CTR, so I'm not worried about a performance disadvantage.

If you drive in a major metropolitan area with bad roads, the stock rims are an accident waiting to happen. I couldn't get them off my car fast enough. Now my summer setup is 255/35/19, winters are 245/40/18, and I'm much happier. The CTR still handles great on either setup.

I guarantee you Honda engineers don't look at the stock wheels and tires as a design flaw. If I lived somewhere with better roads, I'd have kept them, but I don't, so I didn't.

What kind of wheels/tires do you run for the winter?

My winter tires are Continental Extreme Contact DWS, 245/40ZR18. Wheels are Moda, I can’t remember the model number but I got them at Tire Rack. I had the winter setup from my last car, 2014 Audi S4, but the bolt pattern was different so I put the Contis on new rims.

It's the small sidewall on a 30 tire . Most are going with 35 or 40 tires. I have no damage myself on the oems but I may be lucky. I use comfort a lot on rough roads so maybe that helps.
Do you know anyone who is on 40 profiles? I have been on the fence on buying some 245/40 or 255/40 but I don’t know if they will fit in the oem.

Even if you don’t puncture a tire or crack a rim, next time you do a tire balance you could find yo

thats exactly what can happen even if you don’t get a flat or cracked rim.

Has anyone run 245/40 on the stock rims? Seems like they might rub.

Is anyone driving on run flats?
