I guess since the classes and run days are known pretty early thats probably possible. But they need to have a mechanism to allow people to switch between the 2 MSR events since last minute issues can and often happen that people need to switch classes.

TBH the Tuesday was a freak occurrence though. Combining bad weather, lots of stoppage due to people getting lost, course falling apart, it just kinda made the perfect storm. I am sure weird stuff like having Roadkill people there just doing smoke shows for no reason doesn't help. The rest of the week, even Wednesday with the extra reruns for the Tuesday evening heat didn't last nearly as long, and with JA in our heat that still didn't take that long.
Good points - I am guessing there will be a lot of letters with other ideas. I think even if there were 40 less drivers Tuesday, it still would have been on the edge.

Love having kids there, but I wrote a letter asking for JA/JB to run on Monday and give them a luncheon in between. Kids could get back to school earlier if that were done, there would still be plenty of course walking time, and then the 1400 cap would not have such an impact.

I also wrote asking to cap Tues/Wed as 1 MSR event, and making a Thurs/Fri a second event also capped at 700 each so all the people who jump into Tues/Wed to get out earlier can't overload those 2 days. Driving in the dark was bad enough, driving both courses on Wednesday sucked. Not just for Heat 6, but for everyone needing to prep for the second course.
Not to get too far off topic, but the kids arenā€™t the problem. In reality, they only take a couple of minutes per run if we have to pause before and after them. The ultimate solution would be to run them with shifter karts so they can be integrated into the run order with no delays at all. Note that we used the same run order on Wednesday (including finishing the previous dayā€™s runs that morning) yet finished much earlier. You said yourself that running both courses the same day sucked, so why would we plan any class to have to do that (kids or otherwise)? The true problem was simply the added time it took to make runs in the rain. Obviously, if there had been fewer people running that day, it would have been better, and thatā€™s where the SCCA needs to find a solution.

There were over 150 more cars the first set of days than the second. Fix the imbalance, and it would be fine. Iā€™d suggest starting the cap at 1200, then checking the balance between days. If itā€™s OK, increase the cap another 50. Keep doing that and checking it until you reach a maximum number of quality runs per day. Like you suggested, Iā€™m thinking 700 should be a hard maximum.

I agree with Barb about running kids on Monday if only for the fact that a lot of them simply arenā€™t able to participate given the current requirement that they miss all or most of the first week of school. If they ran on Monday then at least the option to fly out after runs and make your whole school week would exist. If the kids who do stay all week with their parents are bored by not running during the week, have a supplemental event for them on the practice course during the week.

I see your point, but I know most of the kids and parents who attend Nationals, and the timing doesnā€™t deter them from coming to the event. In reality, a kid will learn more valuable lessons during a week at Nationals than he would during a week at school. Would there be more kids who attend if they ran on Monday? Maybe, but running both courses on the same day would suck. Besides, that would take away a couple of hours of time from adults walking the courses, and you know full well that there would be tons of bitching about that. Iā€™m all about finding ways to streamline Nationals, but the true problem this year was just too many competitors. Start with that.

Well obviously it doesnā€™t deter the ones who were there ;)

It only sucked because there was no time to walk the day 2 course after finishing day 1 runs. Guess I should have walked it Monday ;)

My region has a dedicated Jr driver who can't make it when she's in HS next year, but might be able to do a Monday only event. That's part of where the thought came from.

Tried out a Si on BF Goodrich and a bigger rear bar. I took the win in a class of 13

So I take it you liked it? Could you tell what made a bigger difference? Which bar was it?

Yea, it was good. I think I like the BFG better. It has a Karcepts rear bar

I just wish the BFG werenā€™t so much more expensive...

Iā€™ve heard BFGs like heat and are not good in cool weather. Was it a hot day ?
it ended up getting to 75, but we had a 2-driver car

I'd be more prone to want to use tire blanket with BFGs than Bridgestones, though its not really an issue unless you are in the mid-low 50s I think. Unfortunately that has happened more than once this past season...
