Curious, how do you downshift smoothly and quickly without rev matching?

I can shift fast, but I don’t guarantee it will be smooth lol.
Practice. I have never had an issue in over 25 years of driving. I'm not saying rev matching etc is a bad thing, just that it's not necessary.

Man, seeing the bickering in here between the 2.0 and 1.5t is sad. I'm someone who is considering a 2.0 Sport. Obviously I know it's slower but I have my reasons.

I go to an impreza board as well as I'm also considering the new Impreza's. They also come with naturally aspirated 2.0 CVT's and no one is calling them slow turds over there. They're about equal in performance. The Impreza's sports are basically the same approach Honda is taking (Same powerplant, paddle shifters, slightly upgraded suspension) and no one bashes them.

I have been driving nothing but manuals for many years. I have never "heel, toe"", rev matched, or had any issue with "rev hang". That being said I have never had any issues shifting fast, or otherwise, just saying.
Not sure how you don't notice rev hang ... it's super obvious when you drive a newer car compared to the cars <'06 when it was cable operated. I've been driving manual for years also ever since I got my license and the rev hang on cars is definitely noticeable.
There's also no way for you to downshift fast smoothly without rev matching or heel and toe. It's just not possible without matching engine rpm of a lower gear. Your right that it is not an issue in day to day driving and it's not like I do it daily every single time but to say you can downshift smoothly without rev matching is pushing it ... You can make it smooth"er" with practicing your half clutch in downshifts but there is nothing you can practice to make it perfectly smooth without matching revs. It's just not possible because you have to raise the rpm to what it would be in a lower gear.

Have you tried tracking your car without rev matching entering a turn? I know of a few people that do it and it feels horrible.

it is a turd and with the impreza you don't have an option for a faster power plant. I mean ... one of my good friend has a '16 impreza and we dynoed it and made 116 awhp lol.
I can guarantee you there would be bickering btwn the 2.0 and a faster power plant if it was available.

It's great that you have your reasons for choosing the 2.0 and there is nothing wrong with that. But to say it is a better performer than a 1.5T is just a flat out lie.

I have never had a problem so yes, it is possible, and no I have never been to a track. Also, it's not that I don't notice rev hang, I just don't feel it's an issue. I recently got a ktuner, which eliminates rev hang, but I don't really notice any difference in that area.

The problem is we already have a Civic Sport and Honda is releasing two new sports in the same generation and they will be quite a bit slower than the current sport.

In essence there will be one real sport and two base performance models with a Sport badge. This would be like Honda releasing a new naturally aspirated Type R with 260 horsepower(which would be cool) without changing the name, simply calling it a Type R(which would not be cool)- consumers would then have to differentiate the real one from the fake.

They should officially badge the Coupe and Sedan sports with an asterisk. Hatch Sport, Sedan Sport*, Coupe Sport*

*Not actually quicker than the base model.

Edit: If they made the naturally aspirated sports have a 8-9k redline it would be really cool but with fuel and emissions regulations they probably can't.

All this 2.0 v 1.5T is the same crap that ALWAYS happens in civic forums. I was on the 8th gen forums and the 9th gen forums... anytime anyone ever mentioned doing any performance upgrades to a standard civic 10 Si elitists would jump in with "shoulda got an Si" basically bashing people who wanted to work on and build up their own car instead of just buying factory performance off the lot, which is respectable in it's own right.

Now that the CTR exists and the Si/Regular turbo civic performance is probably closer now than it's ever been between a base and Si civic we don't hear it so much. Instead now we have 2.0 v 1.5T... whether it be preference for the turbo or NA engine, or be it price... or packaging preference... we're all driving civics... they're all essentially the same car just tuned to different specs and price points.

If you can afford a CTR, awesome for you, don't bash the regular civic drivers. If you drive an Si... don't hate on the CTR because you can't afford one. And now we really need to tell the regular civic drivers that it's totally pointless to bash someones preferred choice between the 2.0 and 1.5T... there are perks to both. NA doesn't have the turbo lag... its more in line with honda's lineage of smooth NA engines, its long term reliability is more well tested... the turbo is more powerful, faster, and the upper trims do come with other very minor performance upgrades to suspension bits. But turbos aren't everyones cup of tea and it's long term reliability remain to be seen.

Live and let live people. And at the same time, don't try to defend your choice of engine with false information. Accept it for what it is. Enjoy your car. Get back on topic or shut up.

Don't worry about those debate. My gf is also considering the Sport Coupe since it is a rather complete package at a reasonable price. With standard active safety feature, Android Auto, ample power (compared with Impreza, Corolla or Sentra), nice exterior design, and upscaled interior at $23K (maybe even less?) there's no doubt that it is a killer package.

Believe me that if Impreza had a higher performance trim there would be the same debate in their forum. But no matter what the trim warriors say the most important thing is knowing where your money goes. I picked a 2.0 Civic because as a graduate student a couple thousand dollar can cover a lot of my other expenses. Would I pick up a 1.5t were I given the money? Probably, but I am happy with my car and it was what I can afford. So I'm satisfied with it.

I love it. Go from talking about 2019s, to talking about 1.5 vs 2.0, to talking about rev matching.
he has been wrong about each of them too. now he says we cant heel toe on the streets lol. I can do it on the streets, I can do it in the canyons I can do it at the local track. Of course I cant do it at all right now since my car is a cvt but still. So to bring it back to topic, The new yellow green color is puke and the Sport package is an abomination of the Sport Hatch and man that just makes me sad that people are going to drive around and equate a base model sport with an actual sport

Yeah, I agree with your last point: folks driving a base sport and equating it with an actual sport. But remember, there will always be those who want the sport look only and don't care about driving dynamics. If it's going to sell more cars, Honda (like all car companies) will make them.

They will sell like hotcakes, no doubt.
