I like it mostly, seems they are trying to better align their trim levels to what most people want. That said, its still a boring looking car and hatchbacks are not wife approved for me anyway haha.

I am pretty glad that they ended up rolling the diff and the brakes across the board so even the vanilla trim gets them. I've had 2 "vanilla" GTI and they are pretty loaded. 2018 looks to be the low point as you have to stick to sunroof car for Perf. Pack content.

$28k+ is pricy but a 2015 4 doors S with Perf. Pack is something close to 26.5-27k, inflation adjusted to 2018 and its right where this is. Not bad, IMO.

Going into a Type R these days for me I definitely am still sacrificing a bit over the GTI I had. Hopefully the gain in performance is worth it...

Unlike the U.S., the Rabbit edition will have unlimited production in Canada.

Well that's kinda expected given the fact that in US there are 9x more cars sold than in Canada. Unlimited production in Canada might be just 10%-15% of what they'll sell in US.

I seem to recall in the past that some limited production cars in Canada were about 10% of the total for U.S. production.
So, for the Rabbit in U.S. it's 3000, and in Canada it would be 300 cars.
The unlimited Canada production may be a non-factor as I don't see them selling 300 Rabbits in Canada.
It just isn't a special/collector type car as say the Buick Grand National was.

MK8 production starts in 9 months (June 2019) with Car and Driver estimating US release late 2019.

I was hoping VW was going to present a prototype this week at the Paris Show, but guess going to way till Detroit (JAN19) or even NYC (APR19) for more details.

If it can get the mpg of the 1.5L or anywhere near it, I will consider buying one.
Don’t expect it, the civic will continue to win on mpg but with the extra HP, the new GTi will crush the Si even more on acceleration. That’s the price to pay

So what? Like driving is all about acceleration. Still wont handle, brake, and feel as precise as an Si while still costing you more brand new and at the gas pump. It can keep its acceleration.

Of course, my point was just that it’s normal that rhe GTI will consume more fuel since its engine is more powerful and larger

GTIs are currently heavily discounted (approx 3k-4k). But to buy them you have to deal VW dealers - they set a new bar (lower) for shadiness. I couldn't even deal with them over email. Seriously the whole dealership model needs to GTFO. Tesla model should be the way forward. Even if I like some company's car, the thought of interacting with dealers just pisses me off.

Interesting, I always thought VW dealers would be more professional, what with the sophisticated upper-class image VW North America pastes over its brand.
