How much are you guys paying insurance on your si ? I was quoted 215.00 a month. Great record 25yrs old here in NY. I have a 2018 grand Cherokee under my name as well at 129.00 a month. They said the crash rate is high for that car in my area which sucks I gotta pay a higher price because of idiots flying up and down the streets crashing..
I’m 20 years old. Squeaky clean driving record. I’m spending $470 monthly on insurance :/

30 years old, live in California's Bay Area, getting the 2019 Civic Si Sedan, had a few prior citations but were minor, outdated, and frankly in the wrong on the law's end...

Anyway, shopping around I was getting quoted around $200 on average for full coverage, and then GEICO swooped in and was like "We can hook you up for a hundred." They win.

Dude had an Australian accent as well, son-of-a-gun.

USAA kept jacking my rate up every 6 months so I said go fuck yourself and switched to Progressive for $93 a month on a 17 Sport. Excuse from them was we have to pay for all the drivers who are getting in accidents in AZ. Fuck that, why am I paying for other people's bad driving?

I bet someone on here is an agent or actuary, but some broad rules of thumb that may help, based on some time in the business.

Insurance companies have to file their rate formulas with the state. They can't cut a deal for any one person. They can build a formula that offers discounts and surcharges, though, so sometimes an agent will be able to find a discount he or she missed.

Among the reasons your rate goes up: The discounts they use to get you to switch expire. Almost every insurer will offer a new customer discount. (This is why shopping around almost always turns up a better rate.) Almost every insurer will offer a new car discount. When you're not a new customer and/or your car is more than a year old, your rate will go up. Which is why you should shop around.

Where you live is the greatest variable for average drivers. Nationwide, the same driver in the same car will pay 10X the rates in the most expensive ZIP codes as he or she would in the cheapest. (Cool example here.) The cheapest carrier in one ZIP may not be cheapest in the one next door.

Car matters, but not as much as you might think. Liability is the most expensive coverage, by far (the insurer is exposed to your liability limit of $100 or $300K, while your type R represents a risk of maybe $36K). Most insurers rate cars based on internal claims data, so sports cars driven mostly by older people (Miata) can be cheaper to insure than an economy car driven mostly by college students (Scion tC). No two insurers have the same claims experience, which is why it is worth it to shop around when you change cars.

The insurance company that offers you the best deal with a clean record and no accidents is often not the best deal when that's no longer true.

It's almost as expensive to have poor credit (in most states) as a first-offense DWI. If you had bad credit when you bought coverage and it's since improved (assuming you've not had more tickets or accidents) your carrier will not automatically re-rate you. Great reason to shop around or to ask your insurer to re-rate your policy.

While seeing what everyone pays is interesting, it's rarely an indicator of what anyone else should or could pay. Stability with a good company that insures all your cars and your home and maybe your life eventually will be worth whatever the incremental cost is. But if your aim is to save money — especially if there have been any changes in your life since last renewal, such as marriage or a move or change in credit — shop around.

(Disclaimer: I'm not an actuary, an agent or even in the business anymore, so pls correct whatever I may have gotten wrong or has changed in the last few years ....)

Get a quote from Wawanesa (Oregon and California) if and only if you've good driving record and no lapse in coverage. About $1000 to cover five cars for six months ain't bad. That's after repeated rate hikes for the last few years.

I paid $850 for 6 months in the Chicagoland area. I also have 2 other cars on my account, the 1997 Dakota and 1972 Roadrunner. Technically the RR is through Hagerty Classics and costs $350/yr itself but Progressive is a sister company so they recognize that vehicle for my household.

I haven't had any accidents nor tickets in 10 years.
