any front pipe update?
Design is done and tested just waiting on mandrel bends for production. We have 2 DP/FP going to Team Honda Research for a endurance race at Thunderhill this fall.

Well I got my ceramic, catted DP and turbo blanket on today and please forgive me if this comes off as cranky, it just didn't go anywhere near as well as I had hoped.

I will get this out of the way upfront - the installer is a 15-20 year Honda Master Tech and is, in my humble opinion, one of the best people in a very large area to have work on anything Japanese. Besides Honda, he's also MT-certified on Lexus and Nissan.

The defouler that came with the DP sheared the threads that connect it to the DP as he was trying to tighten the bottom O2 sensor. Because of that, they ordered a Vibrant defouler and it went on without issue but they had to drop the DP again to install that.

So on the way home, about 10 miles in, I got a P0139 code. I have KTuner and so I was hoping I could just clear/ignore that code but I'm not so sure I can. If I can, great, and I'll have to work with RV6 to see about a replacement defouler? As I understand it, the DP has to come out to get the defouler on and off, so that's a big bummer.

Lastly, and semi-related, but I'd put money on the fact the car seems to run hotter now on IAT. Ambient was just 77* and yet even at 50 MPH the car was hovering at 114 and I was driving it really easy, no boost, due to the P0139. Sitting in a drive through it hit 148* and then when I got back and going I couldn't get it under 118.

I need to stop doing shit to this car, it seems to resist everything I try to do. Really disappointed and frustrated right now, but I don't blame RV6 at all, it's just a bad situation and I don't think my guy understood how the defouler was supposed to be adjusted. I think.

Edit - tagging @KTuner in case they have any input on the P0139.

I had him put the OEM DP heat shield on but we left off the top heat shield, figuring the turbo blanket would take care of that - we were wrong.

I was just out poking around and despite ceramic coating, the proximity to the intake pipe is just too close for it to not absorb heat. So, I'll be taking the top intake pipe back off, gold-wrapping it, and putting at least two of the three bolts into the top heat shield so it's back in place.

I think I figured out the P0139 thing; KTuner has an option to disable P0420 which, I believe, clears both 420 and 139.

The CEL is from the Vibrant defouler. We haven't had any complaints from using our defouler. Just shoot us a message with your order number and we will get a new defouler out to you ASAP.

Keep us posted on how the turbo blanket works with upper heat shield. We left ours off since the turbo blanket covers one of the mounting holes and we didn't want vibrations.

I do see that. Was hoping I could just pull the blanket back enough (needs about 3/8" I think) to get that bolt started. Would be much better if there was a provision for a hole there, though.

Am I right that the DP has to come off completely to reinstall a new defouler? It looks like it to me, from a quick peak just now.

I believe so, everything is pretty tight down there.

Wow sorry you had such a bad experience. I think you just had bad luck sadly. I installed the catless DP without a hitch.

Temps are not any higher then with my stock cat (reused the OE heat shields)...I run the tunerview head unit software and keep an eye one it all the time. I'm also in Florida so right now its always hot until i get an intercooler.

I also had no problem with the supplied defouler. I know you said this person was a pro and all but i don't see why you wouldn't just install the bottom O2 sensor while the downpipe was out before installing it on the car. Also if the tech sheared the threads then he was really manhandling it while installing the O2 sensor, it does not need to be that tight.

Can't really comment on any codes. After install I immediately reflased to a w/DP tune with ktuner and checked the box to disable the code just in case it popped up.

I hope you get everything sorted out and I'm sure RV6 will take care of you. I had a great experience with them. Best of luck and don't give up on this amazing car!

It's possible he overtorqued it but at least on the one I have, the piece that snapped off seems thin and brittle, and he had someone standing right next to him when it happened and said he wasn't applying much torque at all, and was using a stubby wrench with his fingertips only. So I don't know, but I'm not honestly all that concerned with that part - it is what it is, regardless of fault, and I don't really care to blame him or RV6. It was just a stroke of bad luck like you say.

I thought I had cleared the P0139 code but it came back this morning. Regardless, I was able to drive the car on a crisp 60* morning and I am, in every sense, happy with this setup under these conditions. I'll get the heat shield worked out and gold-tape the intake pipe as soon as I can to help further reduce temps as much as possible.

Throttle response feels better even when out of boost. Not gamechanging, but the car feels more responsive in both Sport and R.
The car actually feels pretty manic now at the top of 2nd and into 3rd
That transition from 2nd to 3rd really shows how the turbo spools MUCH faster now. I think that's part heat blanket, part DP, but there was a lag between shifts before and now it feels virtually instantaneous even on a lazy shift
The sound is exactly what I was hoping for - a little deeper, a touch louder, no drone. This plus a front pipe with factory catback are probably where I will call it quits on the exhaust unless something affordable AND much lighter is released.

So, today is a new day, still have the code business to work out, but I'll be talking with KTuner to see if I'm missing something somewhere.
