We're going to visit Japan in the fall and I plan to do a driving tour on the touge roads from Initial D. From the fleet, unfortunately no Type-Rs, but I'm eyeing the R34 GTR as my first choice (one of my fav cars ever). I can also pay an additional fee if I want to switch to another car during the tour.

With a budget of 50,000 JPY (new NSX cost too much:(), which car would you guys choose and why?

Oh lucky lucky lucky! I've always wanted to visit Japan. I chose the RX7 cause its such an Initial D icon along with the Trueno! Have a good time!

Definitely the AE86, but the STI is tempting too. Man I loved watching that show. I still go back and rewatch when time permits (wife has to be asleep).

Would've hope there was more input/votes, I guess the off topic forum doesn't get much love:confused:

Most likely I'll choose the R34 since there's virtually no chance I'll drive one here, at least not until 2024+ (25 yr import rule with 1999 being the R34 first model year). It's like choosing your favorite child, because I really want to try the NSX and AE86 too. Ah well, there's always next time.

Try something that is rare here. R34 or AE86 or Old Evo

Probably too late for you to change your car, but I did the Elise back in March. Best bang for the buck and just a fantastic car in my opinion. They are a great operation and you'll have a blast no matter which car you choose! Two of my friends drove the F355 and Gallardo and someone we didn't know joined us in the 911. We all agreed it was about the best part of our trip to Japan.

Yeah my trip is just 3 weeks away, so def too late lol. I ultimately chose the NA1 NSX. I originally went with the R34 GTR but being a Honda guy at heart, and hearing how it's more raw/better sounding than the R34, I changed it up. Also the fact that it's just me and the wife on this trip, so no need for back seat; don't think that'll be the case for our next Japan trip, will most likely have to bring our kid(s) along....

So how was the experience? Was it hard to drive a right hand drive manual?

Defenitely R34. That Rb26 engine makes all the right noises and will absolutely amazing to listen to while going through the roads. The RX7 is a close second for me but you can still drive those in the states while the R34 is quite rare in general. I'd say live up the dream of many car guys and rip the R34 through those touge roads :headbang:

It was AWESOME. The NSX, although a little rough around the edges, was still a blast to drive on the mountain roads; handles like it was on rails since it was on Dunlop Direzza tires. It was by far the best sounding car of my group that day, which besides me was all GTRs (R32, R34, and R35).

Driving on the right side wasn’t too much of an issue, mainly the tight roads and making sure I didn’t put the car into a rain gutter or scraping the side of the car.

Yeah I was initially set on r34, but I figured this was the last long vacation I’m taking without my son, so I wanted to drive something that I won’t be able to drive next time I come here. Next time I’ll take the r34, with my son in the back seat:D

Man, love the pictures. Definitely envious, gotta put this one on my to do bucket list! Was curious about that right hand drive. Maybe should opt for the r35 so I can focus driving, but I rather drive a manual.
