I bet you can drive a SI sedan away buy OCT/NOV with a 2L Turbo. 227HP Manuel. No 5th door yet for Si. Center Exhaust I hope. $25500 OTD.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are testing both. I do know that AMH wants the 2.0T and has the market analysis to back it up. The question is whether Japan will cooperate (I think they will, based on the direction Hachigo is taking the company).
How do you know this?

They had to pull the trigger a long time ago to implement the development. especially if we are a year out form seeing it.

227hp out of an engine that could potentially produce 305 from the factory? I'd be highly disappointed if the 2.0T was offered this low. Maybe if the 1.5T topped out there I'd understand. But not from an engine that is slated to replace a lot of the V6 applications through the lineup.

If they did offer the 2.0T, I suspect they would remove the VTEC head that is on the current Type R and only offer VTC which is what we are seeing on the 1.5T.

OR

They offer the 1.5T with a VTEC head to push it further from the base engine. This seems more like the "Honda move".

Japan owns all powertrain development including global production. AMH owns everything else as it pertains to the Civic. It's not uncommon to see changes late in the development phase, as was the case in bringing the 1.5T to market a full two years ahead of schedule.

Pure speculation on my part with the 227HP. If we think or maybe know that the TyPE R will be 305HP 227HP does sound low. I think it will be a 2L Turbo. TYPE R engine detuned they say. But over 240HP just would be to good to be true. But 227HP for 2L turbo is low. Maybe 249HP a 21% increase over 2015 si; same increase EXT got over 9th GEN. 227HP how do they get their with a 2L turbo I don't know. I think you have a great point lets bump her up to 238HP and hope for 273HP (ya right no way but lets hope).

For the Si to compete with the Focus ST and GTI it will need to also be in the 240-260 range.

VTEC or bust. not too worried about HP. i'm quite sure it will be ~230+-5hp. i'm hoping for 230tq, preferably 250 or so. one can only dream.

The si will be an awesome car...cannot wait. Even if it end making around 230hp, with a few bolt ons and a hondata reflash, the car will easily hit around 260-270 hp. I just want to see what it looks like.

220-230 would keep it right along the lines of a gti and should keep it in a good price range. If they push it to 260 hp, expect a $32k+ car.
I loved my gti. Was 200hp stock. with a downpipe and unitronic tune, it dynoed just over 300. Not bad for only $800 on mods and it still looked stock

I think they could push as high as 260HP without a significant increase to development costs. Mazda proved that in 07 and retained that formula through 2013. And Ford took a similar approach in 2012. The real limitation is finding the Si's "sweet spot" between practicality and fun. 230-240 sounds about right on a 3000 lb FWD platform.

Also, quite a bit of speculation that the upcoming ST/GTI will both get significant bumps in power. :dunno:

There is no way that 260hp would make it 32k, that's what the CTR is supposed to be priced around. The Focus ST is 25k and 252hp. for 32k I'd drop 3k more to get a 350hp/AWD Focus RS.

There is already speculation the Focus RS will get a limited trim that will also have a power increase.

The Mazda engines for the Mazdaspeed 3/6 were actually Ford designs, that is why when Ford cut ties with Mazda the Mazdaspeed turbo cars stopped and the Ecoboosts picked up steam. The 2.0t Mazda was using was the basis for the 2.0/2/3T that Ford has now.

The L series motors were designed by Mazda in-house and rebranded by Ford for their Duratec lineup. But it was manufactured globally for various applications. The current Eco-Boost 2.0/2.3 is probably what you're referring to. It's the next generation L3-VDT with an improved valvetrain. Most notably the absence of carbon buildup lol. :)

Mazda actually used a 2.3T in the MS6/MS3. Ford's contribution back then was the development of the C1 chassis, also shared with the Volvo C series.

According to some of Mazda's own engineers from then the conceptual design and funding was about all Fords, Mazda just did the actual leg work while Ford started on their v6 Ecoboost and the new 5.0 design.
