The LED third brake light definitely looks great, but people should know that there's another way to do this upgrade.

Many people have reported that simply swapping out the halogen bulb with an LED in the trunk isn't bright enough. This is because most LED bulbs fire backwards (toward the reflectors). With this being said, for the third brake light, the reflectors are above the bulb, so if you were to use a standard LED for this, it would simply fire downward (towards the trunk) instead of at the reflector housing.

This bulb only costs $19.99, but it is also very bright and fires the LED outward which makes it perfect for this application. I bought this bulb and it then took me about 5 seconds to install it (simply open the trunk and the third brake light bulb is right there). Needless to say it performs great and the third brake light is now much brighter than before while also having the benefits and nice look of an LED.

So if you don't want to pay $100 and then have to tear the back of your car apart, you can pay $20 and spend about 5 seconds popping an LED bulb in and get a great LED look for your third brake light. Seems like a big win to me!

I'm buying a 7440 led brake lights for my 2018 civic and they say canbus but I thought that was to trick the car into thinking it had regular bulbs in it and that I didn't need load resistors in it. What's true?

I have installed Philips led brake bulbs and it works. You don't need load resistors for the brake lights

I bought this for my 3rd brake light (sedan) and it caused FM radio interference. Arghhhhh!!

FM radio interference? so when the LEDs lit up it gives noise to the speaker or somewhere?
Yeah, when you apply the brakes, unfortunately.

The sound is like you're having a bad/weak signal.

Still contemplating if I'd remove it since I seldom listen to the radio nowadays. Mainly use Spotify/BT local music. Otherwise it's bright and fills the reflector good enough compared to the stock halogens.

I have the Endpage 54-SMD on my brake lights, so this LED 3rd brake light would complete the look/lighting.

Can these be used for the left and right brake lights also? Seems the Phillips red LED is no brighter than the stock bulbs.

Yeah, they can be used.

However, I think the problem here is the design of the reflectors in the brake lights. It isn't that bright compared to other cars.

I have the same Philips LED bulb in my other car and it's brighter there.

I already use a 54SMD LED and it's just a tad brighter than the stock, however it fills the reflector housing more fully. Main consideration for me is the instant on/off. It gives the car a more high end look/feel.

Stupid question:
Are the brake light bulbs independent of the running lights?
For example , when the headlights are on, do the brake lights also function as running lights with a lower light output?

They are independent. Only come on when you are braking
