Keep in mind that he most likely had equity in his trade. That all is taken in to the lease. His trade was basically his down payment on the lease. Ultimately, you have a residual and a lease rate to deal with, that are not negotiable. So you have a negotiable price to haggle on, and then the lease payment is your purchase price minus the residual divided over your lease agreement. It is not as complicated as people make it out to be, and especially what the dealer tries to make it out to be. Whether are leasing or buying, always negotiate the purchase price. For example, if your residual is $14k, and you paid $24k OTD, your lease payments would be based off $10k ($10k/36 mo = $277.77 before taxes)
yeah I got got a little bit. My sale price 22939.78 w/fees. Monthly paymens 281.02 without tax. Yeah they got me a little, I'll do better next time. This thread is helping me a lot Ill have a lot more confidence when I go back in there. This was really the only dealership that had a si coupe that I would deal with so its not so bad i guess. I also got that free oil change thing that added like 5 dollars so they didn't get me that bad.

I didn't really understand why the sale price of 22939 otd was higher than the payments plus residual. I asked the salesman and of course he danced around it.
I get it now looking at the contract. The sale price minus the residual is what they call the depreciation, you get that low by negotiating the sale price.
Then they charge you a rent charge you negotiate that with the monthly payment.
Then they add the depreciation and the rent charge and divide them by 36 add 7% sales tax and thats the monthly payment.

I feel sorry for my next salesman. lol. I wont even tell them I want to lease Ill just start by negotiating the msrp like I want to buy talk them way down. Then I'll say you know what I want to lease. Then I will ask how much is the "rent charge" and negotiate that by name. Ill make sure it is lower than whatever apr deal is going on at the time. And Ill try and get free shit added in like winter mats side skirts clear bra etc.

Wow this is really helping me out!!!

btw depreciation $8,445.58
rent charge $1,671.14 including $5 a month for free oilchanges and free tire/rim replacement
Total no tax $10,116.72

$325 27months/15k per year includes wheel/tire warranty.

Without the warranty it would’ve been $309.

I only gave 1st month due at signing.

I had a similar experience. Went to a dealer that had the only Black Si Coupe in the area and, when I asked about leasing, they quoted me something close to $500/month. I had to have the sales guy pull up the deal on the Honda website at his desk.

It was quite annoying as he played it off like they didn't know about the promotion. It's been going on for several months and they are one of (if not the largest) Honda dealers in the area. Of course they knew.

Anyway, sounds like you got yourself a good lease for only having a limited credit history. Congrats!

I feel like I got the worst deal, anyone want to chime in kindly and hopefully make my deal sound fair??
36k mile lease
Sport touring hatch
Dealer Wanted 35k but got the price down to 29,500
Put 3k down payment
Had to get a co-signer because credit was still new
And last but not least to top it off.....
Monthly payment of 450$+49$ (service maintenance) so 500$ payment.
idk man it sounds like they bent you over. what was the MSRP? what options did you have? I built one on honda and with all options it was under 35k. just learn from it.

Geez, some of the payments in this thread... it's a Civic...

Not a lease, but just to throw in my 2¢ - my car payment (72month) on my '18 Sedan is $380 with an 8k down payment. Would have been $350 originally but I was suckered into some warranty extras that I was put on the spot about. Really regret them now, and honestly don't even remember what they were for without going back through paperwork. Sounded good at the time, though. Really stupid, on top of that I will probably void the warranty once I get my Ktuner.

Not trying to thread hijack, but anyone know if dealerships can reverse those warranty options? Or does it vary by dealer? The base 3yr/36,00 is standard regardless.

You can cancel extended warranties, and typically the pro-rated amount will be refunded to the bank if the vehicle is financed. This will lower your balance, but not your payment unless you refinance.

Holy shit bro, you got jacked. 8k down payment and you're still paying 25k even without the warranties over 72 months? 33k for a Civic SI? And your warranties are costing you $2160 over the life of the loan? Do you know the payoff amount of your loan? Did you get hammered on interest? You should do some research before buying your next car, that was not a good deal.

Yes, you can cancel warranties. If the dealer tries to tell you no, don't accept that for an answer. Go in person, get them to cancel the warranties. If it's before a certain time period/mileage, you'll get a full refund. Otherwise, it'll be pro rated.
