We tried to do it by removing the castle nut but it was no help it still wasn't enough clearance to easily get the strut out. Removing the lower arm from the subframe may require more steps but it makes the whole process much faster and easier. The suspension has so much room to get the strut out it almost falls out on it's own. Pulling the ball joint is also tricky for some people and risks tearing the boot each time. We've had the springs out at least 4-5 times already so we're tried different methods and this is the quickest and easiest by far.

well, i was giving myself a reason to not get a different set of springs due to the pain of disassembling the fronts but removing the lower arm should be easy enough. Now I want to get different springs ...

Exactly! I removed that stupid nut and I had zero room to move...it was a pain. Kudos to you guys for posting this.

I wouldn't have mind having spoon springs, but I'm wondering how different are the spring rates compared to prokits?

lol yeah . I mean I did it by just removing the ball joint but like they said, there's always that possibility of tearing the boot and stuff which I didn't want to deal with haha.
Not exactly sure yet if i want to get a set of swifts or just go to coils and buy the error canceler thing. I don't really even drive the car much recently so I may end up just keeping the eibachs not sure :dunno:

Whichever route I go, knowing the strut can be removed without having to mess with the ball joint is a big plus.

Eibach are great springs and if you don't have any problem with them you should keep them because you'll likely need another alignment after switching. The ride quality for Spoon is close to that of OEM so if that's what you're looking for then Spoon might be a better choice. Ride height wise there is almost no difference so that shouldn't be a factor.

Unbolting the lower arm from the subframe requires removing the undertray which is 20+ clips and bolts so there are more steps but we found that overall it saves much more time than removing the lower ball joint and the strut has much more room to come out. Sometimes the long way is the quicker and easier way.

Question. So I’m currently working on the fronts. I’m following this DIY. But for the mother of God. I can’t remove the last bolt for the lower control arm. The sway bar is in the way. How’d you all do it?!
