These forums pretty much convinced me we did. I went forward without one, fully planning on adding it in later. I'm sure it would benefit to have one, but as it is, I am pretty satisfied without.

From what I have read around the forums, it seems like it's needed to get the full range of sound. A friend of mine was the manager of the shop I took it to, so I knew if he said it was needed it was for the best overall result.

Did you get something to block the original subwoofer connection too? Kind of like a plug for it or did they cut the connection off at the headunit?

I don’t think so...i can still adjust the sub from the head unit.

I had to have them turn the gains down a bit initially. After that the sub wasn’t as loud and was able to add a little more at the head unit using the sub control.

Then I can also adjust the sub from th JL RBC next to the traction control button.

is that lc2i controller really needed too?? I am keen to see if we need it or not. I was told if you don't have audio control stuff you blow the head unit or maybe im being fear/scare tactics applied to me. keen to hear why you bought it and if you need it or not?

that's koo koo talk. it's not going to affect the head unit in any way. you need it because the factory DSP rolls off the bass as the volume increases so you don't blow that paper plate factory sub. it will also allow you to do a small amount of tweaking as well. lots of posts about it round these parts

I'd definitely recommend it. Here's what the factory EQ looked like in my Aussie 2018 Type R:

That's the capture from an Audison 8.9 bit, which is an outboard amp with built-in DSP correction. If you don't apply correction, that's what you're going to get at your speakers. Alternatively, you could look into rooting your head unit (e.g. with Honda Hack) and seeing if the factory EQ can be disabled there... have a search of the forums and see if it's been done.

Note that the Type R in Australia is equivalent (sound wise) to an entry level Civic overseas... just 8 speakers and no outboard amp or subwoofer. It's where they shaved costs for our market. But from what I understand that even the 11 speaker Civics sound awful.
