That's the idea, but everyone has their own preferences as to what constitutes "good sound". So it is totally YMMV.

It is certainly a cost effective option.

I realize that every time I get in a rental and find the bass maxed out and the treble all the way down or all the way up or, rarely, somewhere in the middle.

Having the same issue as others with Viper4. Installed busy box or whatever. Granted full rights in Super SU. But when using Bluetooth and the stock media player on the HU....no adjustments in Viper make a difference. Any tips?

When using the DSP Flat or entering Syscom free mode manually. My HU gets stuck at this. The solution is to restart the car. I have no idea why it wouldnt let me go past it. I even tried a factory reset and it worked for 2-3 days.

Is the install for an external DSP really that big of a deal?
In my experience w audio, it has been the biggest deal. Impacts to the sound are more impressive than speaker replacements. You can fine tune the music to your taste and maximize speaker outputs to your liking, ie bass mid and treble. Makes a huge difference.

In any case, I didn’t read the entire thread. But it sounds like there is a factory installed mic that uses the audio in car to automatically flatten the response of the speakers. This would make sense for the bass becoming less apparent when playing heavier bass songs. The Hu is automatically compensating for those frequencies by attenuating them.

If that’s the case an external DSP may prove to be ineffective since the hu will try to override the user settings on the external dsp. Disabling the mic would probably have to be done, or the factory dsp.

I would also highly recommend audiocontrols new DSP/amp combo.

American, the product and support are unmatched in my experience.

Has anyone installed an aftermarket dsp yet?

Got JetAudio Plus and Viper installed. Gotta install Busy Box FIRST then install the other two. Also, does anyone know why there is such a volume difference in the inputs? Like if I use the stock media player with a USB drive the volume is louder than if I use Bluetooth with my phone or if I use JetAudio with the USB.

I kno it sounds silly but make sure your phones physical volume is all the way up when using that as a source. Not sure if that is your case but i have had the same problem in my other cars w Bluetooth etc.

Other than that, I can’t think of another reason for the difference in sound level on a factory system, maybe someone else can though.

I realize this may sound silly, but I would stop one step short of cranking volume up ALL the way up. Audio devices have a tendency to clip of when volume is maxed. When clipping, audio doesn't sound as good and furthermore increases probability of blowing a speaker due to the device losing control of its output level.

Then again that may not apply if solely in the digital domain. I'd personally still err on the side of caution.

In addition to turning off thr car for about 3 mins so the radio can completely power down, when you restart the car, hold the volume button or power button, until you get the prompt to reboot, select yes, now when you attempt to run dsp flat again, it will work. This works for me on my 2017 CRV, I used to use the auto run app feature in hondahack, but I got stuck more than once, sometimes soo bad I thought that I bricked the system. Don't remember how but I found a way out of the system getting stuck, now I just run it manually, usually when the system isn't doing anything, connecting to Bluetooth or wifi for example.

Hope that helps.

With Viper4Android you have to lock effect mode and choose bluetooth to make it work.

It doesn't work on the 2018 civic si and the dsp settings SUCK
This is what I am seeing as well... and make the following observations. (having spent considerable time messing with both types of Honda Hacked, 10Gen Audio systems)

SYSCOM setting DSP Flat works on the Head Units that have the built in amp Amps,

but it does not work on the Head units that are used in the "Premium Sound System", that uses an external Amp.

The DSP-Flat program just automatically does what you can do in the menu systems... provided you are Honda hacked,

BUT, if it does not work manually in the Menu System, it will not work Programmatically with the DSP-Flat app,

Bottom Line: If you have the PREMIUM Sound System, SYSCOM / DSP-FLat will not work

SUCKS LEMONS !!
Here is the reason why :-

In the Non Premium ausdio system, the DSP processor is in the Head Unit, and the head unit software uses SYSCOM to control that DSP.

In the PREMIUM Audio system, there is no DSP Processor in the Head unit to locally control -- the DSP Processing is done in the External AMP, and the SYSCOM program that is installed on the Premium Audio system, is not designed to control the DSP processor in the external AMP.

This explains by NOBODY with the Premium Audio system can control their DSP processor and set it to FLAT :(

Really ?? What thread was that ???
I find this very hard to believe, in fact, without any backup to this idea, I would call TOTAL BS on that theory.
