Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a 2017/2018 Type R in the near future, Q3/Q4 2019, as a daily driver. I feel confident that the Type R will satisfy my each and every need, as everything posted here and across forums has been positive towards the handling, suspension, corner taking, etc, which is what I value in a car. The make or break will come with the test drive itself, as I love everything about the CTR on paper and from reviews. Plus, the hatchback aspect of the hot-hatch makes it more practical than not as a "jack-of-all trades, master of none" car. I won't have to be concerned about storage space going into college and the real world, assuming this car had nothing else to offer. I'm a new car enthusiast that's gotten absorbed by the world of these silly little steel death traps. And I love it.

The reason I post this thread is relevant to my inexperience with car setups in general. I want to know more about the car I want to own, and in particular, what I could do to mod it with high quality and class. There isn't a shortage of people who think that the controversial design of the CTR is outrageous, stating that it's "riced from factory". I don't share these ideas, but I'd like to make sure that if I'm making my dream car into something nobody expected of it, I want to do it right. After all this exposition, it leads me to my question(s):

What's the best way to find out whether a CTR mod is reliable/high quality? Is there a dedicated list/thread with all the mods I could ever yearn for? I don't want or need everything to be as high profile as the red Brembo brakes, but I want to know what's out there and where it stands in the CivicX community. The first mods I'll be looking at are exhaust, tire, and spoiler replacements, with hopeful engine, cold intake, or turbo (if I'm feeling extra spicy, maybe even a super) mods way further down the line. I don't have a problem with anything on the bone stock CTR, but these are just my personal goals within the first 1-2 years (3-5 for the more expensive mods) of owning this beauty to make it my own CTR.

Thank you for your time and responses!

Also, I'm wondering if it's possible to replace the parking brake with an E-Brake. I hate the trend of having parking brake buttons rather than the good ol' hand brake.

So you want someone to lay it all out for you because you're not able to perform the research yourself? That aside, you're at the right place but you need to poke around each of the sub forums and educate yourself. The comment about going to a supercharger has me thinking you're a troll but I digress. Best of luck to you!

Could you please to explain me why it's a troll idea to add a super instead of the turbo? The way I thought about it, is to swap out stock turbos and figure out a workaround to implement a twin screw supercharger in order to reduce turbo lag and instead replace it with a smooth, flat intake boost that works off of rotations rather than turbo spooling. At least, that's the way I imagined it. I can't imagine it would be perfect, and likely would be unfeasible since to fit it, you'd probably have to remove the hood altogether, but that's not the response I was hoping for.

It's just an idea I'd like to toy around with in the future to see if it's possible to do. I've been on these forums for a while now, and decided to create an account and post something. I've collected a fair information that I didn't know before coming here, but that doesn't change the fact that I've been looking for information about the civic type R for less than quarter of a year whereas many people I'm sure have been researching cars in general for most of their lives and possibly before I was born. I was just asking for some pointers to get me headed in the right direction, before I decided to buy something worth several grand that ends up only being a ricer tidbit and not a genuine part. I'd prefer to ask silly questions and accrue the information from peers on a trusted website rather than going to Buzzfeed and checking out their top 10 spoilers for the civic hatchback. I don't care about someone giving me their life's work, but rather just a helpful direction towards a source or thread that was posted before I joined.

I appreciate your constructive comments. I've seen you post them before, and I would like to see it again. I consider your approach to this genuine question to be somewhat rude.

Whenever you do end up getting it, I'd also like to see a picture of your C8.

Let's start with the simple.

1) You don't change the aspiration of a motor on a whim (from NA to turbo to supercharger), there has to be support in the marketplace for doing it, OOOOOORRRRR you'll be paying out the ass for fabrication work.

2) I'm not sure you've ever driven a fast-ish car before. If not, you'll be more than happy with what a CTR offers in bone stock form. I mean, it sets lap records on just about every track it's raced on

3) CTR tax is real. You might want to look at the Si if you have the mod-bug. Everything CTR is more expensive.

4) There are 3 separate sub-forums for the CTR dedicated to modifications, what's out there, installation write ups, owner's impressions, links to vendors selling them, etc. Read them

I hope this helps.

Also

Good luck test driving a CTR, very few if any dealers will allow it. You either know what you're buying or you don't.

OP, you're not going to supercharge a CTR. Not only would you have to find a compatible blower but you'll have to fabricate a header which in itself will be a PITA since the exhaust manifold sits in the front.

And you wouldn't want to twin-screw SC a FWD car that already has to be torque-limited at low RPM and in low gears. Would be a complete waste of money. Maybe a centrifugal makes sense in theory, but in practice you'd gain nothing. Just flash a tune on the stock setup and you're very close to where you need to wait on fueling upgrades to be developed anyway.

Sounds like the OP is very green to the internets and cars. With that being said, buy a CTR and enjoy it stock. It’s going to be more car than 99% of the buyers on this forum, so learn to drive it and run some track events

Just got mine. I'm gonna enjoy it stock until next year but in the meantime research the hell out of this forum!
