2017 & 2018 Owners, what would make you switch to a 2019 Type R?

Surely you'll wait for a ZR1 version?
I’m not sure about that. The C8R sure looks like a panty dropper though lol!

AWD, with a fair trade-in of my current CTR is the only way I'd even consider this.

I read in Motor Trend last week that the 2018 Type R has an upgraded intercooler from the 2017 due to heat soak. Upgrading from a 2018 to a 2019 seems like a waste of money to me. I previously owned a BMW M235i, which was essentially on par with the performance of a Type R. While that was fun, I would instead goto a 2019 Accord 2.oT Touring, upgrade the tires and tweak the ECU with Ktuner. Then you'll get awesome performance plus some luxury - but that's me.

So the 2019 will have Honda Sensing and a volume knob. Great, I wanted those and just bought my 2018 :(

Unless the CTR suddenly becomes something other than a hatchback, nothing in that press release references the hatchbacks and, by extension, the R.

Not to be picky but a CTR can lap most tracks faster than a M2. A M235i might be on par in a straight line, but otherwise, no.

Not specifically, but there is this:

"For the 2019 model year, Honda Sensing® is standard or available equipment on all Honda car and light truck nameplates."

It also includes the R in the last paragraph when it talks about Civic sales worldwide. I will concede that separate hatchback/Type R news is a likely possibility, but I will also point out that they have been out for less time than the Civic sedan/coupe and are less likely to have much of anything changed.

True, just seems they're being very specific but who really knows. That said, personally I don't really care if they add sensing, a sunroof, premium audio, or any other bells and whistles. If those would have been dealbreakers for me I'd have waited but I wanted an R, or at least as close to a lightly-optioned version I could get. I like that I have a radio, cruise, and A/C, but the other stuff I can live without. Just my personal preference, but it seems some want an "R" that is basically loaded down with features and bells and whistles. I fear if they do that, they'll water down what it means to be an R and add weight, cost, and complexity but again, that's just my opinion. I'm also team #parkbenchspoiler as well, lol.

I think Honda will update the Type R for the 2019 model year, nothing crazy but I think it will come with Honda Sensing and driver assist technologies, which I don't think will add much weight to the car.
Will also add a couple more colors to choose from, and may offer a smaller tire and wheel choice.

would love a volume knob! hopefully we can swap the infotainment systems out. I've read the ones with knobs are also more responsive.

No guarantee that the RS Trophy will set a new record.
They will for sure. Because they will keep adding more special versions to the line-up until they finally set the new record lol
The spyshots of CTR test car doing some runs at the ring probably means Honda is getting ready for that.
