At freeway speeds? How fast are you going? Lol
If the car needed the wing at normal speeds to be “stable” they would’ve put it on the regular hatchbacks too. The wing is really only needed after about 120ish mph
Someone on this forum already took off the wing and reported back significant difference in day-to-day driving.

I remember my impression after reading the thread was the handling characteristic is no longer "type R" without the wing
I find this very hard to believe as the EVO didn't lose anything with the spoiler-less MR versions and instrument tests have been done on STI's with and without the wing with little change. I'm sure at very high speeds on a track like the nurburgring the spoiler makes a difference but in day to day driving there's absolutely no way you would notice. Spoilers don't alter handling characteristics at all as they only server to reduce drag at high speeds.

Yeah cause removing a wing and having to fill the holes and get it repainted is something you wanna do to a brand new 35k car. Maybe if the aftermarket had spoiler options
This logic is precisely what im talking about. You are among those who are obviously missing the point.

If you’re willing to sacrifice performance over appearance (no matter how miniscule the difference) then you value *show* more than *go* my friend. Honda developed a car with an options that caters to all my motorsport senses. The wing is there for me when i need it, in +R mode.

Removing it is not that hard or expensive. But if that is such an issue for you then this is definitely not your market. If Honda reverts to a smaller wing that obstructs visibility, they are catering to those who need a mode somewhere between sport & +R...not me.

Source of what information? Here's a review of the EVO X without the wing where it performs exactly the same as the older spoiler versions;

I don't think anyone is debating that the spoiler doesn't make a difference at very high speeds on a track but day to day or even on a windy country road it's going to make little difference. The fact Honda has been testing Type R's with smaller wings kind of confirms that.

But they're only testing it. If they release it in R trim is another matter.

Nowhere does it say it performs exactly the same as an Evo with a wing. You're assuming that because they didn't mention a performance impact, it had no performance impact. That is not how logic works.

They did mention other things that might have larger impact than deleting the wing, but to argue that it "performs exactly the same" based on a limited article like the one you linked is disingenuous.

I want my 60 lbs of downforce. If you don't, that's fine, but don't tell me it doesn't make a difference.

Confused why we are comparing a different brand car. If so.. early year audi tts had recalls to install spoilers because of instability at high speeds. That means nothing but so does comparing a mitsubishi. “Just my 2 cents”

The rear wing is good for roughly 60 lbs of downforce at 120 mph. Removing it isn't going to do much at consumer speeds. Though with a small wing, they might tweak rear toe alignment to compensate.

If you fear a CTR with smaller wing will fishtail when you're doing your daily 120-mph run, just put a couple of sandbags or hide a small body (mannequin) in the trunk and call it a day. It's all about physics. So simple, a high schooler can do it.

yeah there's no way you will feel the difference of a wing in day to day driving unless your out there driving it on the streets like your on a race track.

  • Honda Sensing® now standard on all trim levels
So Type R will have Honda sensing?
