It may be a smidge thinner... but I haven't had a problem as of yet. My Odyssey had it's replaced in about 6 months of being new from a rock... but otherwise has been fine since then. I think Pilkington manufactures all the glass for Honda, at least state side. Not all glass is made equal, and if you kind of move your head side to side, looking down the length of the glass, if it's wavy, you get a lot of distortion. The replacement glass was still Pilkington glass, though without the Honda symbol on it as I recall on the Odyssey. I know the replacement piece was *much* less 'wavy' and therefore better than the factory installed piece. Whatever you choose... look at the piece of glass before it's installed. I've had windshields replaced 3-4 times in my life... and not all pieces of glass are made equal. Sometimes a good deal can be on a pretty crappy windshield. You won't see the waviness without looking sort of down the glass and moving your head from side to side.
Yeah, I'm working with a local Honda dealer. I'm dead set on OEM only replacement, I seen them online for around 43-450 + labor was around 1k.

I called around and ended up with a local installer who had to have the windshield shipped. They go by chassis, so the Civic Hatchback for 17+ is interchangeable with the Type R. If you're quoting don't let them know it's a Type R. Make sure they have the correct molding for the windshield as well or else in my case they found an older model molding so it came up slightly shorter and has some slight gaps but they assured me the urethane completes the seal so I haven't had any issues after my install. My glass ended up being manufactured by Fuyao and I haven't had any noise/fitment/clarity issues and works just as good as the stock and hopefully a bit more durable but we'll see. I paid $285 out of pocket in Atlanta area.
Good to know, hopefully my insurance pays for the OEM if not I'd pay the difference.

Funny to come across this thread. I just noticed i have a crack starting from the passenger side going towards the middle/upper portion that is about a foot long at the moment. It seems that a rock hit the edge of the windshield causing the crack.

Had a crack around January of this year. I was told that in FL, insurance is supposed to cover one windshield replacement per year. At least that's how I got mine done. Safelite also replaced my windshield with OEM Pilkington glass since that's all they had in stock.

My car's got 5700 miles and 9 months of driving. OEM glass is perfectly fine. Do you guys live up north? I have a feeling the extreme heat/cold cycling from the winter probably made the cracking worse or weakened the glass' internal structure.

I make 6 months with the car at the end of this month (just hit 6k)

On father's day i had bird shit on the car so i grabbed the hose to wash off

I said F it I'll hose down the entire car it's hot smh what was that for the freaking windshield cracked like wtf

apparently too hot and cool water don't mix well ... I've been driving over 10 years ive owned a lot of cars and never ever ever had i had this happen to me

I called insurance turns out in NY state replacement is free and since its an 18 they have to use OEM glass by law rep said i'm like great! They setup safelite appointment. The girl mentioned on the line something about Honda sensing so I call safelite to make sure they have right model. Rep assures me ordering glass using your vin. Saturday comes oh i have the glass but not the moldings ... next week comes back installs glass slightly crooked and with regular civic molding not Type R ... 3rd week this time took it to another shop the Tech sees issues off the back without me saying anything but of course only has 2 out of the 4 correct moldings in stock lol hopefully this week I'll be done with this issue

I've never heard of this happening but Honda rep and insurance rep have heard of this happening on cars

I live in the south, mine were from road debris but still.. Insanely fragile windshield imo 2 cracks in less than 7 months of ownership. Note that I almost always leave at least 2 car lengths in between me and the car in front.

I had a very similar experience with Safelite not having/ordering the correct moldings.

In the end they got it done right and the windshield is fine now, it was just a 6 week process to get it done right in my case.

If this is true, that's just asking for a class action lawsuit.

I haven't had any cracks, but I have gotten a few pretty visible scratches on it. Either that or it's rock debris that just won't budge.

My Touring actually just got a foot long crack alongside my windshield. Pretty ridiculous.

Whoever considers or is told by insurance to use Safelite... RUN. They are THE worst and have messed up many vehicles for all of the same reasons listed above.

Mine was cracked from a flying rock on the highway, I-95. It was around 5k miles.

I have an appointment to get it replaced come Monday, I hope this new OEM glass will last longer than the from the factory!

A rock the size of a nickel caused this on my way to work this morning, crazy there was no car in front of me only next to me, only 200 miles on the car, the crack actually spread just sitting in my work parking lot, what a joke!! I think I’m covered by my wheel and tire package though need to call. Does anyone know if the new windshield I get will cover the vin etching the dealer installed? Thanks
