Reason? Easy - most content for the money paid vs competition.
2019 Jetta
2019 Corolla Hatchback

Those two are also going to be good bang for your buck.

The Hyundai Elantra Sport is also great value - slots in between a Civic Touring and Si.

Because the civic came in a hatchback that wasn't strictly a typeR. There are tons of reasons, but having the versatility of a hatch in a fun package like the Sport sold me. I had been looking at the Elantra Sport GT also, but the styling turned me off, it's just too boring. I would have liked a CTR but the cost didn't put it as an option for me at this time.

My civic sport hatch kind of reminds me of a 2000ish Prelude also - great styling, great fun to drive while still being efficient and practical.

My wife likes her 2006 civic, and the new one is similar enough to feel familiar, but improved in pretty much every way. I'm just glad I managed to stave off the inevitable crossover for a few more years

The looks of the car instantly caught my eye on a review site since I really haven't seen many out on the road. Once I saw it in person, I had to get it and not many other manuf. really excited me compared to the hatch. I was going to wait for the 2019 Veloster, but glad I didn't since I'm not totally impressed, but it would have been my 2nd choice for sure. Now that I have it, the gas MPG and the joy of driving it really notched the reason why I liked it so much over the looks.

I might be trading in my Si earlier than planned depending on if the Veloster N has a volume knob.

Needed a 3rd car that a was dead reliable, comfortable, nice to drive econobox that will handle my tedious commutes into DC for work. But at the same time, I also wanted something that was actually nice to drive and wouldn't suck the entire life out of driving (ex: Toyota Corolla). So it came down to my 2018 EX or a 2018 VW Jetta SE, and while the Jetta was cheaper the Civic was probably going to be more reliable and it also felt much more modern so I went with it.

Looked at a VW and Mazda. Was not really impressed with either. Done with Toyota, owned many in the past. They are cheap, reliable cars, but shit everywhere in looks, handling, etc and very under powered.

If I didn't get the Honda I'd probably have picked up a Subaru.

Subaru is the only other brand I'm interested in. I was more familiar with Honda and was impressed with the Civic X, so that's what I went with. The combination of HP/MPG is best in class. Toyota is ugly and no fun. Owned 3 GM cars/SUV's and know first hand they're unreliable.
