There's a thread somewhere here about a Japanese screw head similar to Phillips (I think), but different enough that a Phillips will bugger it up.
you should find out so we can document this on this thread

I think this is right, though I can't put my finger on it. In any case, this is why I champion these stupid, spendy screwdrivers.

Quick Google: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_screw_drives Check out JIS B 1012, I bet that's it

the autolock is an amazing technology, I am blown away at how the car knows the key is inside the car, as opposed to merely just outside the car. I'm paranoid about it locking me out at a gas station, though,..so I always take the keys out of the car if I'm not in it.

i might turn it off since i have no kids and i dont live in the ghetto
the motors do wear out eventually around the 9-10th year mark "my car was only 7 years old",especially if you live in an area with dust storms. I know i had my accord in el paso texas for 2 years and when i got inside my door to fix the door lock motor, it was full of sand , dust and small dirt particles do find its way into the doors. The first warning sign is it will lock slowly or wont lock at all. Since i had the coupe i only had two doors to worry about now this thing has 4 doors so expect a 350.00 repair bill from each door if you go to the dealer or 50-60 bucks DIY

when it comes time to fix i will just follow a hatchback youtube video to take off the door panels
Ah never considered the area thing. In the suburban/urban areas its not too dusty. Never experienced anything wrong with modern locking mechanisms so far. My 07 GS350 would lock everytime you shift into D and it had no problems for over a decade. My dad's 01 BMW 325i had some weird locking issues but the mechanism themselves work fine. Cant say the same about their window regulators though.

I'd be careful about having all doors unlocked once you are within the proximity. You wouldn't want a stranger jumping in ;)

Honda uses Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) screws. They look like standard Phillips screws but will have a dot stamped into the head.
Honda Civic 10th gen Auto Lock Walk away feature turned on is awsome 101617-japanese-screwdrivers-JIS-screw-marked-611x388

If you do not have JIS screwdrivers buy some! A regular Phillips screwdriver will more than likely strip out the screw head.
