Are people enjoying using ACC? and can you turn it into regular Cruise Control?

I'm looking and ready to pounce on getting a 2018 Civic hatchback and would like to have honda sensing. I use regular cruise control a lot, so if it can only do ACC and it is a bother, I'd prefer not to have it. I couldn't tell exactly from the manual, but looks like around page 493 (hatchback version), you can indeed change to regular Cruise Control. Plus, all the EX trims I find are all black, which heat and night visibility never been a fan of.

Any advice welcome! Thanks!

I love it. Our civic doesn't have it but our 2018 Accord does. If you get a CVT car, the low speed follow is great if you find yourself in construction or other stop and go situations. The only bummer is that if you are stopped for more than a few seconds, you have to tap the gas to get going again. Other than that just letting the car speed up and slow down when traffic is backed up is really convenient.

I've only had the car a few weeks & the ACC is kind of neat. I'm still getting used to it & usually have it set for maximum distance. That typically means it slows me down more than I want, just to speed me up a couple seconds later. For example the person in front of me is slowing to make a right turn, but then gets out of the way & I have to speed up. To me that's wasting gas. I know I can decrease the range setting, but as mentioned I'm getting used to the system & don't know how much I can trust it. But it is amazing when traffic is slowing to a stand still that the ACC will bring my car to a complete stop without me touching the brake pedal.

Do the brake lights come on when slowing to a complete stop? What about when just decreasing speed slightly? I'd think at some point the brake lights would have to come on so you don't get rear ended.

I think the collision avoidance braking is a bit too aggressive in stop and go traffic (which probably means I follow too close!) ... but I do like the ACC in the CRV.

I don't like the adaptive cruise, I found that it wasn't very smooth when it slows down or speeds up.

Pretty much this - it does its job, but not very smoothly. I find it better to just single pedal drive to adjust to the car ahead than having the ACC - its like having a driver that wants to ride the brakes all the time. The sensing suite is programmed to err on the side of caution, its not subtle about how it does this. CMBS usually ends up with too much braking when it intervenes and tries to help you out.

I love Honda sensing Lkas. The acc I u see as well but I end up hitting cancel when I see cars slowing down to avoid use the brakes. Does the acc ever 'coast' to drop speed or is it either gas or brake pedal for changing speed?

Feels like 90-95% brakes, vs coasting. It can adjust by coasting but traffic seldom slows down slowly enough for the coasting part to work. LKAS self steering seems well sorted though when you have good lane markings.

I'm glad some people like it. Sounds more interesting on low follow as the breaking in highway speeds would feel weird compared to coasting to slow down. I wonder if other companies are the same with acc.

I totally dig it. Every car I get from now on will have adaptive cruise if I can choose.

It gets caught by surprise in mid-speed traffic, especially when traffic is slowing down far ahead, like when you can see brake lights a quarter mile down the road. It only knows the distance between your car and the next car ahead; it doesn't know that the other cars ahead of that one are already slowing down (or have stopped). Fixing this issue would require internet- or radio-connected cars that can "talk" to each other.

Other than those instances, I use it all the time. I don't have to keep tapping the accel/coast buttons anymore.

All those problems were solved by comma ai. But again it's almost another grand. Stop and go is smooth. Not enough torque for lane following to word perfect but for long stretch of highway it's easy.

you can push the resume button on steering wheel to get it to go again as well i believe
