I was wondering what everyone was talking about and, ah, then it happened to me. I have had this occur 3 times. I have about 2k on the clock. my gosh that's a horrible sound and sensation. I would so like to take it to the dealer so the complaint can get registered and add to the chorus of this problem, but like the guy in the video about this says, I am more scared about 20 year old Honda techs flogging my car all over town "trying to recreate the problem".

I am just hoping it stays extremely intermittent like it is now. If over time, it causes damage, I got an 8 year HondaCare warranty and they can swap out the transmission or components somewhere down the road.

Gotta say I have patience for most niggles with new cars, but something that so directly impacts the driving pleasure of the car really sucks....always dreading for it to happen again..
I took mine twice to dealer for the 2nd gear crunch and grind issue; they can't reproduce issue BUT I got my car washed, hot coffee and shuttle rides all for free. Lucky me,..I think.

I've had 3 grinds in the past. The first 2 grinds happened about a month ago with ~6000 km on the car. The 3rd time happened yesterday at around 7800 km.

The first time it happened, I thought it was my fault for poor clutch timing, so I tried to reproduce it at the next stop light 30 seconds later. This time I was sure that the clutch pedal was on the floor, and I was able to reproduce the grind. It only happens when I pull the shifter very quickly (< 0.2 second) from 1st to 2nd. It won't grind if I go a little slower (~0.5 second from 1st to 2nd).

I have had driven many manual cars in the past, and have never had a problem when I shift quickly.

I finally got a crunch on a really aggressive shift that was my fault. It felt so nostalgic!

I have an appointment setup [7/30] with my local Honda dealership for my issues.

2018 with 5800 miles.

I have lost count of how many times it has grinded going from 1st to 2nd.

Also lost track of how many the 5 to 4 lock out occurs.

Twice I've been completely stopped and got a grind going into first.

So Iā€™ll brighten everyoneā€™s day.
2nd gear grind started at 3k miles. At 4K miles it got worse 2-3 5-6 would be hard as hell to get into gear. Neutral to 1st would lock me out.

I was formally a technician for Acura so I know the games at the dealership. Luckily I have a insider that I have known for a while. He duplicated all the problems and compared the shift quality to other type rs on the lot. My car was terrible in shift quality/feel.

The car is all stock, as for my driving habits I baby this car and I donā€™t use it often as I have other cars at my disposal.

News I got today is the transmission will be replaced under warranty. And no itā€™s not a one time deal as other members posted if they replace the transmission their transmission warranty will be done. I will post a follow up once everything is all done.

My car is R-00061...

The tech could not duplicate but they went ahead and did the fluid swap today. So far I do not notice a difference, time will tell if the grind returns. Currently I also experience difficulty shifting out of 5th randomly, as if it wants to stay in that gear. I need to try another CTR to see how it is supposed to feel.

Iā€™ve talked to a couple FK8 owners yesterday in Houston and theyā€™re having the same problems like me....that rare 1st gear lockout, notchy shifts, etc.

I hope Honda offers a TSB soon and fix this issue. If the 2019's still have this problem, I'm definitely purchasing something else. Purchased a BRZ when they first came out years ago and it had a notchy/grindy 1-2-3 shift. After a year and a half, sold it and took a huge loss. Don't want to go through that again.

I find it sad we canā€™t even enjoy this car

I thought I was the only one experiencing a 1st gear lock out... I haven't had it happen to me in a while though after swapping to a modified CMC and Motul Gear 300 fluid. Only time will tell...

Just to add. I was below 100 miles the first day, July 14, 2018 when I picked up and got the 1st gear lockout. Havenā€™t happened again. 2nd gear seems to not be as smooth as I imagined it should be but no grind, yet. I havenā€™t driven it hard itā€™s still under 600 miles. Maybe comparing to the Focus RS this just has more feeling during gearshifts. Iā€™m actually looking at doing the heatshield and changing the fluid to a higher temp soon when I get back in town. I just have to find all I need.

About a week into new OEM fluid and my shifting feel is much better. Still rougher than I would expect into 2nd, 4th and 6th but way better than where I started.
