So im in a 2016 ext sedan. I use an htc u11 phone. Ive noticed lately that android auto isnt connecting between my phone and my head unit. Over the last couple months it has gone from partly working to now not at all. I cant access anything. Ive tried redownloading the app, changed cables, and notbing seems to ve working. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a way to fix it?

Go in the settings of the radio and make sure AA wasn't disabled for some reason for that phone.

When i switched from my old LG G5 to my Samsung S9 it made a MASSIVE difference. So it may be your phone..?

I have the same issue with iPhone 6 and 8. It’s the unit and not your phone.

I had exactly the same problem. I then found out that when i connect, my phone defaults the USB setting to data transfer. If i pull down the menu and click on the USB connection, i can then select 'Connect as MIDI device' and i have a working Android Auto connection. Works everytime for me now.

It's not you. I had the issue when I had a GS8 and also have the issue with my Pixel 2 XL. It's the lousy HU, and the fact that AA is SO SENSITIVE to the cable, makes for a bad and unreliable combination.

Do any of your friends have a car with Android Auto? If so, try it out on their car. That will tell you if the issue is with your phone or the headunit.
How do you update the headunit?

I found that Google Maps was causing a severe slowness/crashing issue. I changed the default Navigation app to Waze, unplugged and plugged back in, then my issues disappeared. Unfortunately, I have only added another variable to your fixes. Hope one of them works for you.

On another forum someone mentioned clearing the data for the "Google" app on your phone. Sometimes that's the leading culprit so I would start there.

Well after going through everyones suggestions i think i found out what happened. Somehow my phone became disabled from the HU. Still changed the usb settings on my phone to "connect as MIDI device", and then reenabled my phone and now it works. Im still going to keep an eye on it for now. Thanks again for everybodies suggestions.

Have you tried doing a factory reset of the headunit and reinstalling android auto on your phone? I had something similar and this is what eventually fixed it for me. I'd also recommend restarting your phone/clearing its cache prior to reinstalling android auto.

One more option to try if AA stops working.

Android Auto (and Carplay) can be enabled/disabled in the head unit menu. SETTINGS/CONNECTION/SMART PHONE CONNECTION...

Mine was working then stopped. I found that it had been set to disabled for some reason. I might have had something with leaving the phone in the car and it getting too hot to charge.

Even if you find it is set to ENABLED already, try disabling and re-enabling.

I have been having the same issue. Tried 2 new cable, updated the Android OS, still didn't work.

Finally, I went to Honda and this is how they fixed it:

From the Home Menu, go to Settings->Smartphone->Android Auto. Then Enable your phone. Somehow it got disabled.

dby2017 mentioned this early one, but I didn't know where to check it.
