Any other owners disappointed with the quality of the OEM windshield? I think it's a joke. I've gotten 2 cracks in 9k miles and 8 months. I've read on other 10th gen that they're getting cracks left and right as well. Seems like a few CTR owners are living with minor cracks or temporary fixes.

I wanted to start this thread to promote awareness of the crappy windshield and also suggestions on prevention or quotes to have replacement options so we're not getting reamed for crappy quality glass.

I quoted around and safelite had initally around $450 then today $480. Called locally and one dealer had it for $404 and another at a reasonable $275.

I am assuming if you avoid saying that it's a Civic Type R you won't pay Type R tax and just say 4 dr hatchback as it should be the same thing without all the frills.

It ain't the windshield cracking by itself.

Well should've anticipated this reply. Of course not, that's why I said "fragile" as in prone to cracking. Of course it's definitely stroke of luck and crappy roads causing road debris. All other factors aside just pointing out that these windshields definitely seem weak. Anyways, it's more of informative post to see alternatives to OEM and prices paid, insurances, etc.

Been driving on the same free-way for over 4 years everyday. My CTR has more chips from rocks then my 19 year old Nissan.

When it cracks you bet i'm not gonna get OE POS glass.

Yea, these windshields suck. They must be thinner these days. Mine isn’t damaged yet but I do notice waviness in certain spots.
Be glad we don’t have sensing. My touring accord’s windshield quote was over a grand for replacement and camera recalibration. Crazy....

Well now I am worried, at 5,200 miles but each track day I do running up on people they're always flinging up stuff with hot sticky tires. Lucky so far :fingers crossed:

Lucky the "Type R Touring" uses LX's windshield . Rain sensor is the little knob on the dash.
I thought rain sensors were usually mounted up by the rear view mirror. The nub on the center of the dash is ambient light for auto headlights.

I know having the nub blocked with a sun shield causes the lights to turn on.

Did you get your windshield replaced? If so, which one did you go with? I'm still working with my insurance on getting mine replaced, I have a J crack from a big ass rock hitting my car on the freeway.

It may be a smidge thinner... but I haven't had a problem as of yet. My Odyssey had it's replaced in about 6 months of being new from a rock... but otherwise has been fine since then. I think Pilkington manufactures all the glass for Honda, at least state side. Not all glass is made equal, and if you kind of move your head side to side, looking down the length of the glass, if it's wavy, you get a lot of distortion. The replacement glass was still Pilkington glass, though without the Honda symbol on it as I recall on the Odyssey. I know the replacement piece was *much* less 'wavy' and therefore better than the factory installed piece. Whatever you choose... look at the piece of glass before it's installed. I've had windshields replaced 3-4 times in my life... and not all pieces of glass are made equal. Sometimes a good deal can be on a pretty crappy windshield. You won't see the waviness without looking sort of down the glass and moving your head from side to side.

I called around and ended up with a local installer who had to have the windshield shipped. They go by chassis, so the Civic Hatchback for 17+ is interchangeable with the Type R. If you're quoting don't let them know it's a Type R. Make sure they have the correct molding for the windshield as well or else in my case they found an older model molding so it came up slightly shorter and has some slight gaps but they assured me the urethane completes the seal so I haven't had any issues after my install. My glass ended up being manufactured by Fuyao and I haven't had any noise/fitment/clarity issues and works just as good as the stock and hopefully a bit more durable but we'll see. I paid $285 out of pocket in Atlanta area.

I bought my Type R last Friday and on my way home I noticed a crack inside the windshield. Dealer thought it was a rock chip and wouldn't pay for it until i brought it back and showed them the damage. No damage at all to the outside of the window. Still waiting on the new one to come in so they can replace it.
