OP, if you are so on a getting a hatch, why not save some cash by picking up a used hatch? This will soften the blow of the money you will lose on your tradein.

yes the C pillars make it hard to see..However, I'm used to it because I have a 370Z and it's the samething..Hard to see out of the pax side pillar.. When I drove my hatch 1st thing I said was, wow..this hatch has the same blindspot issues as my Z..Lol..

Good morning everyone,
I have a 16' touring Sedan since 9/16 and it Performed flawlessly since the Beginning. I had to buy it fast as my 03 civic was Dying a fast death. I really wanted the hatch. Fast forward 2 years still love my civic everyday but hate the trunk( really wished I had the hatch). Im on the Fence about trading it in for a 2018 hatch exl nav/hs for 23330.00 including dest. Hoping to get 19/20k for my trade. Which pay off is 12k. I understand i am Losing money but im gaining more space. Have any of you guys done this? Am I crazy?
Try Carmax vs. trade. I have found they give more than the dealer, given the national network of locations.

@Rawnerve1 I feel your pain. Take it from me, Iā€™ve owned both. I had a ā€˜16 Civic Sedan EX-T. Now, I have a ā€˜18 Civic Hatchback Sport.

Yes, rear visibility in the hatch is diminished compared to the sedan, but itā€™s not as bothersome to the degree mentioned in this thread for me personally. The larger C pillar is a welcomed addition to the hatch considering I despise quarter windows. It also cuts down on the amount of sunlight emitted into the vehicle.

As far as cargo space, the hatch will allow for a bit more space in terms of height, but the slope of the roofline/hatch, a characteristic I love from an aesthetics standpoint, limits potential cargo space compared to what many would expect. Ultimately, the combination of the hatch and rear folding seats provides the ability to haul items a sedan cannot rival. I was able to haul two accent chairs (without legs attached) with just one side of the rear seats folded!

The hatchback is a sweet spot for me. I liked the sedan, but I love the hatch!

Numbers say it the best (ft3):

Cargo space:
Sedan EX-T: 15.1
HB EX: 25.7 (46.2 in one chunk with rear seats down)

You also get over 1 inch of rear headroom:
Sedan EX-T: 36.1
HB EX: 37.4

And for the money spent you are not just getting the inches but primarily a car that's two years newer, with some bugs fixed, and also brand new. That alone is worth thousands to many people.

Sooooo, you want to spend $24,000 to purchase a trunk and you're asking if we think this is a crazy idea? I think, if you have to ask the question, you already know the answer. $24,000...for a trunk...

I went from a new ā€˜17 HB to a certified ā€˜17 EX-T coupe. I loved the hatch but wished that I had bought a manual from day one. Also, the rear end of the hatch lost its attraction after a while. I never had any visibility issues.

This weekend, I tried to pick up some moving boxes but couldnā€™t fit them in the coupe. The hatch would have been easy. I wouldnā€™t go back, though.

I had a 16 ex-t coupe. Loved it but was so sad driving a cvt instead of a manual. I also hated trying to fit my road bike in the back of the coupe. It was terrible. Plus it was a loan, previous work had me doing little mileage but now I'm doing well more and this would have killed me. Now I have the hatchback sport, manual and it's financed. Coming from the coupe, rear visibility is not even an issue to me. However, financially, I had to take a hit but that was to be expected. To me it was kind of worth it. But coming from the sedan I'm not too sure...
