So I'm pretty sure I managed to blow a fuse. The dome light has these metal clips that prevent the exLED plug from fitting. I used pliers to open it a bit and now no lights will turn on.
You shouldn't have to make any modifications. The LEDs should plug in the same way as the OEM bulbs easily. Not sure what happened. I would make sure the LEDs are all installed before you replace the fuse. There should be a spare in the fuse box. Fuse 21.

Yeah I don't know what I did wrong, but the plug definitely wouldn't fit. Once I moved one of the little metal things a bit, the LEDs plugged in fine.

The two pieces of metal on either side of the bulb are what stopped the LED plug from fitting.

Got it. That's what blew the fuse. Metal on metal contact. Don't forget to replace the spare fuse. Never know when you may need it.

The trunk light had a similar issue. Is there a correct way around it?
Diconnect the trunk lamp assembly from the wire via a push button on the socket between the wire and the assembly. That should allow you to work with installing the led without risk of blowing a fuse. Just didn't have that issue. I had to do this with another set on my sister's 12 Civic.

Makes me wonder if I did something fundamentally wrong or if there's variation in the housing or exLED plugs? I absolutely could not find a way to make that plug fit. I just bent one side out and installed the LEDs. Replaced the fuse and everything is good.

Can you send a picture? At least all is working now.

I had to bend the metal prongs you're talking about to fit my exled LEDs as well. The black sleeve is larger than the outside diameter of the factory bulbs so it wouldn't fit past the prongs without minor persuading.

Must have been a design change. Didn't have the issue but I have had my EXLed lights for 1.5 years. Moved from my 14 Civic and replaced with iJDMToy LEDs. iJDMToy LED kit is exact fit too and is a less expensive option although not as good as well. Better than all the generic T10 options though.

I noticed that exLED recently added a new kit specifically for the 2016 Civic (as opposed to the one for the '13-'15 models). I wonder if this addresses this fitment issue. They look the same in the pictures on the website. I ordered the '13-'15 set (along with the LED reverse lights) and it was just delivered this afternoon so I'll report back once I've had a chance to install them and let you all know if I have any issues with the install. @ChrisR16 Did you order the same set as me or did you get one of new 2016 models?

It's the same kit. 14-15 models have same interior lights as 16 model.

Mine was for the 16. I know I don't need the extra reverse lights lol

You can use the reverse lights for your side markers but not sure how a white light would look with yellow lens....light yellow? Would look nice with clear sidemarkers though.
