Went in for a routine maintenance today and the service consultant mentioned that my left rear brakes are getting low. I have about 12.5k miles on my R right now. Seems a bit low for new brakes, but I guess since it is a R it is what it is. He suggested to think about getting them replaced by next oil change which will prob be around 18-20k miles. They run about $550 for the rear brakes.

Anyone else?

Currently close to 9k miles rear brakes are completely shot . Turn off VSC for less brake wear . I bought some cheap $35 brake pad to see how it goes.

$550 is a rip off.

If its only one side tell him to diagnose the vehicle correctly not to tell you to replace pads. Something is wrong. Possible sticking caliper piston. Is this a dealer?

This is false due to the stability control using the rear brakes aggressively to stabilize the car in corners. Depending on where he is driving and how, it is not uncommon to see very uneven rear pad wear.

Yes, this is from the dealer. He mentioned that rear right was at a 4 and rear left was at a 2. He said its not uncommon and would be more worried if it was like a 2 to 6 comparison.

As for driving I use it as my daily to and from work and weekends, it is my only car. I have fun with it often, but I definitely don't abuse it. Guess it is just what has to be done to maintain it! lol.

If you have "fun" with it in any corners then I am not surprised by uneven rear pad wear.

WTF? You can buy front caliper and disk for less than that... You can get front pads cheaper than that too and they're larger than rear. I know that some pad compounds are more expensive than others, but $550? It's hard for me to believe this...
