So I've racked up about 20K miles since I picked up my Aegean Blue Touring in March 2016. Wanted to share some long-term tidbits to anyone interested:

Exterior:
  • Few rock chips on the hood, on the whole, it held up exceptionally well during a Midwest winter and still looks flawless.
Interior:
  • Leather is showing slight stretching on the butt bolster on the driver's side closest to the door. I try to take my wallet out and be careful but this seems a fact of life.
  • Rear leather isn't perforated like the front. It's driven me nuts since I noticed it. Also bunching a bit on butt cushions.
Performance:
  • Came from a 2013 Si. I've yet to miss the power. I drive mostly in D with Eco on. Some tanks I'll alternate and turn Eco off. Big difference in city driving and engine response. Only use S on steep hills or to pass.
Fuel Economy:
  • Outstanding. I rarely get less than 34 mpg mixed driving. Ive never gone under 31 mpg on any tank in any driving.
  • Regularly see 41-45 mpg on the freeway, usually on lower end.
  • Typical city/mixed driving nets 32-36, more on the higher side.
  • Blizzaks killed my fuel economy along with ethanol gas- averaged low 30s in the winter.
Repairs:
  • Grinding on Warm Starts: initially thought this was the fuel pump last summer. TSB released and repaired- hasn't made a sound since.
  • Headunit Green Screen of Death: entire head unit replaced (warning- you lose ALL settings).
  • Maplight above driver wasn't firmly secured at delivery, dealer fixed
  • Recall for Parking Brake done
  • Fuel Door: actuator replaced. Wasn't locking, popped open during car washes.
  • Rattling rear deck: dealer found it to be warped, replaced entire shelf. Rattling is mildly back again 6 months later.
  • Alignment: had an alignment done one year in, HUGE difference on the car's handling. It wasn't pulling to the side, but whatever they did made it feel brand new again. Special shout out to Milwaukee for their incompetent department of transportation and non-existent road repairs.
Issues:
  • Creaking Plastics: the interior plastics give quite a lot and make awful creaking sounds. This is remedied by pressing firmly on the culprit, and goes away after. Minor.
  • Squeaking suspension: a few times, I've had my rear passenger area back a squeaking in the suspension over bumps. Dealer said rocks get stuck on the back bumper- either way it rarely happens.
  • Minor Rattles: often from the plastic infotainment surround, under the driver dash (repaired), and the ever present glovebox rattle I've had on every Civic I've ever owned.
  • Rainsensing Wipers: crap. Useless, would kill to have intermittent back. Sensing ones don't clear during strong rain and go nuts when it's barely drizzling.
  • Plastic Fogging: the gasses from the plastic fogged up my windows to the point I was cleaning them daily for the first several months. Went away over time. RIP sanity trying to clean under center brake light.
Verdict:

I do not regret this car at all. In every possible way it is a superior car to its predecessor and I can't understand why people would buy any other compact car. The new Cruze looks nice and the Mazda3 is more fun to drive, but this car is in a league of its own.

I can't vent about the issues given I have a first model year. That said, the issues with the head unit need to be addressed by Honda. Even after replacement, it's still buggy.

I get compliments on the car constantly, no one believes it's a Civic, and I've taken numerous road trips with a full car and trunk and it's been smooth sailing. Backseaters love the heated seats and the spaciousness.
