It’s not a concept, it’s a one-off built by the guys at the Swindon factory in their spare time just for fun. Honda has no plans to put it into production. It will be used to haul Honda lawnmowers and other small things at shows, for PR.
What I love about the story is how Honda as a company supports this kind of fun pursuit. It’s good for the brand.
Honda should use their precious engineering time for development that will benefit their product and customers...
Not for that thing...
I thought it was a late april fool
This looks like a copy of what the guys at BMW did years ago at the M factory. They needed a shop truck to move things around and a few techs made something similar out of an M3.
Honestly, if you took the CR-V chassis and modified it as an standard cab and gave it a 6' bed (can haul 8' board and lumber with tailgate down) I could see this being pretty good. Just enough ground clearance, AWD, plenty of power with the 190HP and CVT. Could give it a tow rating of 2000lbs. Should weigh around 3300lbs and handle like a CR-V would kill any pickup out there and be a great service or contractor truck for 99.9% of what contractors actually need and still get probably 32mpg with a good underbody aero tray.
