Wondering if its even possible to give my Sport HB just a MILD growl. Everything I've seen on youtube sounding like a friggin' fart machine.

I wonder - how does one get a lower tone to their exhaust? Having heard 2015+ STI's with deep, throaty growls, I had always believed that it must be a matter of displacement. But then I stopped to think about how there are a metric ton of 9th gen SI's out there with high-pitched/"fart can" exhausts. A 9th gen SI has roughly the same displacement as a 2015+ STI, so what gives?

you arent going to get the STI sound for sure... that sounds comes from the firing order of the boxer engine paired with unequal length exhaust headers.

From a purely theoretical engineering perspective, is there any way that we could get close? Every exhaust for our cars that I've heard thus far has sounded more like a buzzing sound rather than a growl, and they all tend to have a higher pitch to them.

due to the fact our exhaust manifold is cast into the cylinder head, and the turbo is bolted right up to it, you would need a completely redesigned cylinder head

theoretically yes, practically yes if you got $$$$ and the technical knowledge to do it yourself.
i don't think this is viable, just find a way to engine/powertrain swap

that's not true. you can just make a manifold from the head and mount at a non oem location

I always thought the boxers engine distinct sound... which I always though sounded like a pissed off bumble bee, was from the unequal length headers. I also though the last redesign did away with it which eliminated the very distinctive exhaust note.

As for lowering the sound... I thought people had some success with eliminating the resonator alone... raising the volume slightly and lowering the tone. Maybe someone can chime in. I've got no experience with exhaust mods on the Civic myself.

I was thinking of doing the resonator delete only, but can't seem to find any videos of it. There's a bunch of examples of the muffler and resonator deletes together, but to me, it doesn't sound very good.

I'm running a AFE catted downpipe, little growl yet still nearly stock noise level.

Bonus, no smell and no CEL.
