Anyone have an issue with the new civics and the paint quality? Thought they had addressed this. I know it’s inevitable with daily drivers but 3 weeks in I already have a handful of rock chips on the bumper of my 2018 Aegean Blue Civic SI Sedan. A couple that are even showing metal.

Curious if anyone else is dealing with this on their 10th gens, and any experience with the OEM touch-up paints? Thank you.

There's literally hundreds of posts here regarding the thin/poor paint quality on these Civics. My car has many chips on and around the hood. Honda definitely cheaped out on the paint. :(

Yeah, I’ve seen them. I was told by the dealership that they had addressed this in the 10th gens but I guess not.

Dr. Colorchip is your friend.

Not cheap, but worth it.

What proof do you guys have that the paint is poor quality. Getting rock chips is not proof, if you actually stop and think about it.

Let's see, I've owned like 10 cars. And I drive the same roads over and over with those said cars. So, you're telling me the fact that my Civic has twice as many stone chips as the other cars is pure dumb luck? Sorry but this topic of thin paint has come up over and over. It's fairly clear Honda cut corners on something. Maybe less clearcoat?

Zoo is correct, PPF is a must, and still not too late. I'm doing mine hopefully this week.

Aren't most manufacturers aside from luxury brands using the same crappy, brittle paint because of all the environmental regulations these days? As said above, PPF is a must if you do lots of highway driving. I got it on the front of my car and it's made a huge difference in the 2 years Ive owned it

PPF is the only way to 100% prevent rock chips. Everyone should at least have the front bumper / hood / backs of mirrors done. Yeah another $500 spent on your car is a pain in the ass, but when you consider that you spent 20k+ on the car, it makes sense.

I have never experienced any rock chips with all the past cars I've owned but somehow, I find a new one every day on my civic. Stands out in the lunar silver mettalic finish.

Japanese cars are notorious for thin sheet metal and paints.

i noticed this first hand with our Sienna. It actually came with film protection on the front bumper and rocker panels. When you build to a price point, everything is looked at and squeezed to the bare minimum.

I didn't know what PPF was. I'm a dinosaur, my other cars have old-school thick paint, and are happy just with poly wax. So I did a forum search...

One informative thread on Paint Protection Film:

https://www.civicx.com/threads/ceramic-ppf-and-hybrid-protection.23386/

So:
  • Costs low hundreds to properly DIY the front end, to thousands to have the whole car wrapped by a pro.
  • Keeps soft metallic paint looking brand-new for years and protects it from rocks, bugs, salt and all.
  • Looks invisible / even better if done right.
  • Looks like bubbly streaky crap if done wrong.
  • Doing it right can be a bit of a project.
Well, good to know.

When you have it done or DIY it, do you just have the nose and hood done, or the whole car? Do you bother with the grille, lights, other non-painted parts?

PPF is the only way to go, after i got 2 tiny chips on the front of my hood i fixed them and then got the bumper, hood, and fenders done. well worth the money
