It came down to the Civic Hatch ST, Mazda3 2.5 GT Hatch, Elantra Sport Hatch, and CLA 250. Ultimately, the Civic was the only one that checked EVERY box on my list. Good MPG, safety nannies for my 120 miles/day commute, reliability, resale, cargo volume, and bang for buck. Like others, I really liked the Elantra, but there weren't any in the WHOLE STATE! It also checked all of the boxes, but gets worse MPG. I wish I had a Pano roof like the Elantra :/

Hi all! New member here. I was considering the GT86, Camaro V6 1LE, Ecoboost Mustang, and Hyundai Elantra Sport before settling on the Civic Si. Absolute best decision.

Almost purchased a Chevy Cruze. Looking for a vehicle for my daughter as my hummer was to big and my 2018 Silverado was to for her to drive on her learners permit. Test drove the Cruze and for the money it was a better deal but the reliably was a huge question on that car. Also looked at the Hyundai Elantra as a year newer with more options was about the same price as the 2016 civic I finally purchased but in the end resale value, reliability, and name branding swayed my decision to honda.

New guy. Proud owner of a 2018 Civic Touring sedan for 6 weeks. Traded a 2013 MINI S. Wife hated the MINI and wouldn't drive it. I liked the pep, but also grew a dislike for it's quirkiness. I used to say it rode like a truck, until I realized that was an insult to modern trucks. When the wife said get rid of the MINI, find something else, my first focus was the Civic. I have a niece and nephew with older Civics. They aren't car people. I figured if their old Civics kept running with little help from them, might be a good car. :) More I researched, more I liked.

Immediately ruled out the Kia Optima. Wife driving a Jeep GC when she had a near head-on collision with an Optima. Optima drivers fault, and she went to the hospital. Jeep totaled, but my wife okay with a few bruises. Evaluated a few others, Volks, Nissan, etc., but final decision was the Civic. And a right one I made. An incredible car, and more incredible considering the cost. I'm a car guy. I bought the Civic for 'round-town errands, etc. I have a Corvette for fun stuff. However, I am thrilled that the Civic has proven to be one heck of a fun car to drive!! I can't wait to get it out on some Arizona twisties.

Here is my favorite comparison. In 1989 I purchased a new Maxima SE. 180 hp (?) V-6. Some of you remember Nissan's ad line. 4 Door Sports Car. Great car for 1989. Here is the kicker. 1989 MSRP was $23k. Almost 30 years ago. MSRP on my 2018 Civic Touring only $6k more, and three times the car!

Closing, I could never get my wife out of the Jeep into the MINI. Now I can't get her out of the Civic into the Jeep.

Lexus IS 300- wasn't all that impressed with it
Ford Focus RS- None in my area every dealer told me that they were limited production and they didn't have any.
Subaru WRX- Wasnt a fan of the interior
I ended up choosing the 2017 civic si absolutely loved every part of it, especially the part that it is now a turbo engine opposed to a N/A. and I have no intentions of selling it for a very long time.

Was going to get a 2018 Subaru WRX Premium. I was pretty much set on that until I realized how much money it would cost me in gas for my drive (140 miles a day on weekdays). This has always been the car I wanted since I refuse to get an STI until they get rid of that engine. A coworker suggested I look into the Honda Civic. I kinda didn't want to since I would always make fun of Civic drivers lol. Anyways, went there and saw a used Civic Si 2017 coupe with only 300 miles. Took a test drive and fell in love lol. After negotiating a "good deal", That's what I ended up getting.

I still get a bit sad when I see a WRX on the road, but I think I made the smart choice for now. Cheaper car with enough power for it to be fun and a great daily driver with excellent gas mileage.

Came THIS close to a Focus ST. Seriously close. But after taking a hard look at the standard features, along with an honest assessment of what my actual need are for the car, I chose the SI sedan.
Things I didn’t like about the ST: open diff, worse mileage (long commute), long term reliability.
The stock power number is nice, and the aftermarket is packed to the gills, but it just didn’t check all the boxes.

I've owned a variety of different cars over the years, but recently I've had a lot of Nissan's. I was cross shopping the Civic Sport and Sentra SR Turbo. The Civic has a much better suspension than the current Sentra. The Sentra's rear still has a torsion beam set up. I also really like the styling of the civic hatch. Another thing that pulled me away from Nissan is I couldn't find a manual in my area. I found multiple manual hatch's in my area to choose from. I tend to get bored with cars easy. We'll see how long the Civic holds my attention.

Mine was the civic RS or the Civic Type R. After being quoted on the insurance for the type R, i went straight for the civic RS.... which has a cvt.... Hate being under 25...

2017 Honda Civic HB 1.5 Sport CVT
When I bought my new Civic HB 1.5 T Sport CVT, I had two other options: Used BMW 118i (1.5 3 cylinder version) and new Opel Astra 1.6 T 200 HP, which were about the same price with the Civic (Nowadays Astra is much more expensive than Civic) and all had auto tranny. Then I eliminated the BMW because I learnt that this engine was far from problem - free and it was not worth the loss of performance compared to the other two. On the two - horse race, I opted for the Civic because Opel did not offer me a test drive for that specific car (they had only the 1.6 cdti version) and I liked Civic's design (both interior and exterior) better than the Astra. However, I sometimes regret my decision because I missed a car that can make 100 - 200 in 16 - 17 seconds with only a stage 1 remap. But some other times I am happy with my decision because I am in favour of Civic's design (as I mentioned, both interior and exterior) and I think that most probably Astra's ride would be a little harsh with 18'' rims.

For me it was between an Evo X, 2010 STi hatchback, or the Type R. My local Honda dealership wanted $5,000 deposit on their Type R plus whatever else down, so that was out of the question. The Evo and STi were starting at around $30k for one with a fair amount of miles (<60k). So with that, I "settled" for the Si. Having owned it now, I don't feel like I settled with all the fancy tech and fantastic MPG. I desire speed, but I'm also a sucker for being able to go further on a single tank of fuel.

I had 3 cars in mind

BRZ (was my first option)
Charger
Civic

I choose the civic because it had Android Auto and it had a turbo already. Exactly 2 year ago (6/29/16) I went and bought it and if I have to choose again I will choose the Civic but this time with manual tran.

2.5 yrs later and 35k miles, and my Touring is still, pound for pound, the best car I have ever owned. As stated previously, I have owned many of the top names in cars....my wife drives a Land Rover LR4 (2016).....and before that a GL450 and before that a Lexus LS400.....all bought new off the showroom floors (I am old). This civic is the best car we have owned, value and everything else-wise. Every time I get in it I love it. I am not tall (5'10") and it could use a bit of headroom.....but it's the best car value in the world to me....I wouldn't doubt if civic 6x is in the future.....maybe a type R?
