You won't over-rev, the ECU has a rev limiter for this reason...to keep people from over revving and smacking a piston.

If they didn't do this you could chew your engine up by accidentally bumping into N on the highway
I’m a somewhat new manual driver and I often times when I know I’m gonna be coasting to a stop possibly hold in the clutch and flip to neutral before I see what gear I need to either first to stop and go again or if a light turns green for example I can kick it into second or third and keep going. I’m worried about messing something up and there have been a few times a rev limiter kicks in I believe when I didn’t shift soon enough or hit the wrong gear once as well. I hope I haven’t already done damage but have no idea how to even tell as it still seems to ride great!

I we drive our '12 Si the same way.
Unless you're trying to aggressively rev-match on the downshift, over-rev is unlikely in the situation you describe - you'd have to be going better than 30 mph and catch 1st by mistake and dump the clutch before exceeding redline - AND the rev limiter won't help as it only cuts spark and it's the front wheels that are mechanically driving the engine beyond its design limits.
