It unlocks the trunk remotely so someone else other than the key fob holder can open it.

At least that's the only situation I see it being, uh, useful....
Sooooooo

Pretty much nothing the unlock button doesn't do?

yes correct, most manufactures wont offer fully disabled traction only vsa ,. so on any mode you can disable vsa but on R MODE you can do both vsa and fully disable traction which allows you to launch the car and race without vsa coming on ., its not in the regular manual guide , i ordered the true manual for the hatch which included the type r and its close to 800 pages ., it also says do not fully disable for normal driving lol....... dude i to am lazy, especially to be looking at the manual i was lucky to have found it
Thanks! Where did you happen to order the true manual for the hatch you are referring to?

Hey, I didn't say it was useful :dunno:

Although it JUST unlocks the hatch, and not the doors. I still don't see how it's useful for any situation though.
I guess if you walk up to a locked car to retrieve from (or put something into) the hatch, just unlocking the hatch would allow you to close the hatch and walk away when done. However, if you unlock the car, then you would have to re-lock the car after you are done . . . . because, you know, pushing the lock button on the remote or pushing the smaller button on the hatch is such a chore!!

Well, that's the only explanation I can come up with. Besides, if they didn't include the hatch unlock button on the remote, we might have gotten a button to remote start the car to fill the void and that costs money!! lol

Whats the difference between the "original" two beeps TC and the fully disabled TC?
When the system is fully disabled none of the "nannies" will help you out. It's really a nice option. For example. When I ran Dixie this year I was in the first heat and that means cold asphalt with dirt. I put Knight in R mode then turned the TC off but not fully off. To me, the systems were there when needed and didn't help when I didn't need it. So when I did an input that the traction of the course didn't allow the system was able to assist in accomplishing what needed to be done.

Now had I had it fully on the system will fight you with its life because it thinks its trying to save your life.

Fully off and you're on your own.

Hope this makes sense. it's how I can relate to it anyway. This Sunday I'll be on full grip-y concrete. My set up will be R Mode + VSA Fully Off + me adjusting the Karcepts rear bar to see what setting will give me the best rotation. If the course is wet, that will all change and the VSA will come back in to play.

Again, this is my driving style. And I'm not an alien driver, LOL.

Yeah, fully off means you can definitely lose control in certain situations. I was testing it out the other day...quite interesting lol. I felt my car sliding out to the right when I was turning left...had to blip the throttle to get the back end to come around and avoid sliding.

If any point if the VSA is on when tracking, don't you go through a lot of brake wear? I'm sure it engages under high stress situations (track) which I can't imagine would be that great. Thanks for the info.

I'd think you'd have weird brake wears possibly because it has torque vectoring by the use of brakes.

Is there a way to always be in comfort mode when you turn the car on? Or will it always start up at sport mode?

I don’t believe so. I would love to be able to start the car with the brake hold already turned on.

What comes with the car is the "Owner's Guide", which is useful but not comprehensive. Download PDF for 2017 or 2018.

You can download a PDF of the more comprehensive "Owner's Manual" for 2017 or 2018 or order 1 free hardcopy for your car from http://owners.honda.com but for the hardcopy you have to provide your VIN.

Click for complete list of available manuals for the Civic for 2017 and 2018.
