I was fortunate enough to obtain a Mishimoto intake before release. Here are my impressions:
First of all, the packaging is excellent! Every part is either bubble wrapped or sealed. The metal intake box is padded and boxed separately and well protected. All the items are packaged individually based on their associated parts. This makes installation a bit easier. An air freshener and decals were also included.
The quality and the finish of the metal intake box, MAF housing, silicon coupler is the best I've seen from any manufacturer. The welds and bends are perfect. The black finish is very elegant.
Installation was pretty straightforward. I used the YouTube Mishimoto video. There were a couple of OEM removal issues. First, when disconnecting the OEM plastic tube, you will encounter a clamp with a flat fastener. The trick is to use pliers and twist the fastener from the back side. As you can see in the pics below, the back of the fastener has been striped by the pliers. The pliers were able to twist the fastener just enough to free the clamp. Black replacement clamps are provided.
Second, then the installation requires the removal and replacement of the rubber grommets and metal inserts from the OEM air box to the Mishi box. The trick is to remove the metal insert first, then use pliers to gently remove the rubber grommets from the OEM box.
The fitment of the Mishimoto intake is 10/10. All the components lined up perfectly and were very easy to secure.
The sound is absolutely intoxicating. You can hear the engine breath so much better. Driving this car became so much more enjoyable. Here are some videos. You have to hear it in person to appreciate it!!
As far as power gains are concerned, I did not perform a before and after dyno. It's hard to tell you what my butt feels, I'll leave that to Mishimoto to answer. I've had zero issues with CEL. The intake is working flawlessly.
Overall, although the fit and finish are excellent, I would purchase this intake for the sound alone. There's no way I could go back to the stock engine sound with the OEM intake. This is too much fun!
