My 2017 CTR does Hill Assist in the same way that my 2015 WRX did, it's just more sensitive to what it determines to be a hill; light slopes it won't trigger, steeper slopes it will. I'm not hitting Brake Assist either, it's just been active since the day I got it.

Is it different for the 2017 model? Check in the owner's manual, or give it a try on a hill.

I am not fan of the fact that I have to engage the brake hold button each and every time I start the car. . . I like the brake hold feature. An automatic hill assist would have been good, though not really necessary (unless you are on a hill in SF or Seattle).
As others mentioned, we have both on the CTR, hill start assist and brake hold. I don't know why it's not mentioned in the braking section of the manual, but on anything more than a slight grade, the brakes do automatically engage when you have the clutch fully pressed down to prevent rolling back. No need to use brake hold.

It’s automatic. Works great on my driveway with steep incline

Alright, I stand corrected. I tried it out last night, and if the car is in gear, the hill start assist kicks in for a second or two. I blame my statement squarely on the owners' manual, as well as the second gear crunch and Louis CK's deplorable conduct.

Why not use brake hold 100% of the time? I only turn off brake hold if I am in a queue downhill

I think people don't do that because, at least in the USDM (and perhaps not in the UK), you have to push the brake hold button and turn it on every time the ignition is started. I wish it was on by default.

Same for UK cars, but I already made it part of my routine: buckle, Spotify, brake hold, mirrors, go! I find it sooooo comfortable if you are in a stop/go queue

I don't use brake hold because I don't feel the need for it in a manual transmission.
In an automatic, it's a different story. I use it all the time cause the amount of pressure needed on the brake pedal to keep the car from rolling forward is much more than sitting at a light with a manual.

Makes a lot of sense in traffic. Weekend cars tend to be less afflicted :)
