Don Wessel Honda has been known to sell at MSRP. Looks like they have a RR in transit.

I was able to get a CW at MSRP with no accessories at Mike Piazza Honda in Langhorne, PA. Fast and easy transaction. My sales consultant texted me that they had a car coming in. A week later, its in my garage. They have another Type R coming in 1-2 months. I am still surprised I was able to get one. PM me if anyone wants his contact information.

*Cue others saying that you shouldn't pay over MSRP*

You shouldn't pay over MSRP.

...but, if you feel that it's a price you're willing to pay, then welcome to being a consumer!

To give you a hint, the west coast states are anywhere from $40-51k right now. You have to be persistent, lucky, and go at the end of the month to get MSRP, or anywhere close to it. From what I've seen, the east coast is in the same boat. As others have found, if you're willing to look outside of your state you might find a better deal.

My observation is Midwest and Northeast states are willing to deal at MSRP.

If you're willing to travel (one-way plane ticket and then drive home) or willing to have the car shipped home then you might be able to save a little $$ by going out of state. I'm in a high ADM zone in the San Francisco area and feel very lucky to have pulled the trigger at $38K + tax and license. Basically the exact same price your quoting. Plus, I was paying for my preferred color, RR.

For me it is a matter of principle. I will never pay over sticker for a car - period. I do not care how rare or high demand the car is. Does that mean that I might have to wait, or potentially not get the car at all? - absolutely!
This weekend I found two PMM Type Rs less than 250 miles from my house. I called the dealerships and told them that I will come out the same day and will purchase the car immediately if they sell for MSRP. One told me that they have not decided on the price yet and are "feeling" the market, the other told me $48,000. I am not sure what they are smoking or drinking, but I told them that the fact that a car is in high demand does not make it worth more than it is. Paying 12K over sticker wont make the Type R a better performing or faster car. For that kind of money the Type R is simply not in the same league as other cars that cost that much.

My only advise -- stay strong and dont give up to this dealer non-sense!

honda marysville in marysville, oh, 15 mins from american honda manufacturing and r&d hq's is msrp only. all 6-7 they've sold (including mine: https://www.civicx.com/threads/virgin-cw-ctr-with-3-miles-brought-home.22204/#post-375415) have been msrp plus usual sales tax and fees.

if you want one from ohio, pm me and will make the personal intro. they don't publicize their allocations because all are pre-sold via personal intros or referrals only.

i guesstimate shipping from ohio to atlanta would be less than from socal to ohio when i paid $1500 one way covered trailer double decker shipment of my lambo. may want to check into it to see if worth it...$1000 maybe?

paying over msrp is simply wrong, not to mention financially poor decision quite honestly. it's simple math...insurance doesn't cover over msrp replacement cost in case you total the car; gap insurance is dumb on a loan; plus mods (we all know that will happen), etc. ex of $5k over msrp and over 5 yrs cost of ownership:

$40k car
+ taxes (say 7%) and fees
= $43k and 80% to be financed (which i'm assuming most are doing) at 5% over 5 yr term with 20% down
= $646/mo payment and $4,500 interest paid
= $47.5k + cost of depreciation over 5 years say 60% of msrp NOT what you paid
= $68.5k is your actual total cost of ownership (not including resale equity recovery)...makes no sense at all

now add 15% of msrp as your expenses in mods or another $5.3k and is at $73.8k or rounded to $74k for what in essence is a $35k car. why on earth would anyone do that?

note: slightly used ctr's are going for no more than $1k under msrp so you can see the trend. used car market sets the price. if someone is willing to pay under but close to msrp for a slightly used ctr, why would any dealer be able to continue pushing for over msrp? they can't...just economics.

i've never ever paid $1 over msrp for any of the 57 cars i've owned and never will, not even the lambo or porsches...simply against my principle of financial management.

lastly, unless you have more money than god where you can pay cash for your car, lowest interest rate is best way to go - ASSUMING, you can hold on to your cash and invest that $35k or so in high growth equities that generate at least 2x the interest rate you're borrowing money for the car. meaning if you do not get more than 10% (ex. of 5% rate above) for your investments, by all means pay cash. my 2013 mini jcw was financed at 0.9% rate over 5 years and costed me a measly $450 something in interest while that same 5 yrs with the $37k (msrp of jcw at that time) has generated over 135% return on investment for me in a couple stocks...so the mini was almost free for me.

simple time value of money - a $1 today is worth more than $1 tomorrow and if rate of return is at least 2x that of rate of borrowing then delayed cash outlay generally is better than full cash outlay upfront...just IMHO ;-)

I did think about shippping it from a state that is far from my home, but I do not think I want to go through that much trouble :) Not yet at least. I think at this point I may just wait and see if the Type R returns in 2019. Obviously, if Honda says that 2018 will be the last year (I highly doubt that), then I may go to the shipping option :)

Ratimux, are you looking for a specific color? I also live in Atlanta and went through the same experience getting my Type R.
