Do you actually like the OEM wheels?

i'am definitely keeping the 20s.... even if i go after market i will still get a 20''. im not a fan of the 18s for me personally, however i do like how a few type r's look with the 18s but not for me...

I don't know how you guys are driving on those wheels without destroying the tires. The wheels on my SI have rubber band tires and I have already blown one out on a little pothole. Yours seem even thinner.

I am not a fan of the color/size. Don't like the "time attack" striping on them, I feel like it's a little too much with that red stripe. I wish they were color CW like the previous Type R wheels (bar the FK2).

So I'll say this, when I first read about and saw the pictures of the CTR my initial thought was, "20-inch wheels? Those have to go." When I saw the car in person and saw how much wider the CTR was to a regular Civic, I changed my tune some saying "you know, this thing almost needs the 20" wheel to fill the wheel well and complete the look." After driving the car and seeing how easy it is to spin the tires in 1st and 2nd gear I started to jump on the 18" wheel with a 40 series tire bandwagon. The car needs more grip..wider tire and more rubber.

Now that I've seen a ton of people swap out the wheels I have to say...I haven't seen a set yet that I'm really impressed with. Especially on the CW ones. The car just doesn't "pop" with the aftermarket wheels I'm seeing people put on it. The factory 20" in gloss black with the red stripe just makes the car IMO. When you remove that wheel and still have the red stripping on the aero kit, it just doesn't look right. And I'm just not a fan of silver wheels on a white car. The TE-37s don't look great on it IMO (and it's just a tired wheel at this point. Ya, I know its the classic mecca JDM wheel,...it looks awesome on an R34, but not on a CTR).

I will get some 18x9 wheels for track duty, but for now I'm loving how the CTR looks with the factory wheels. I will say when I wear these OEM tires out I'll probably replace them with a 35 series tire to give a bit more sidewall. Anyways...that's my $.02.

Being careful and don't go fast on unfamiliar roads. Si is 235 40 right? That's meaty to me.

You stole the words out of my mouth, when I saw the type r , in person I said to myself now I know why Honda chose 20s , this car is huge and bulky , and that gap !!!! I guess my issue is running an 18 with bulky tires and having to Lower the car,. I like how it is oem,. And the roads where I live and travel through are damn near perfect ( knock on wood) but even when I lived in nyc with my si and 20s with 30 series tires I never bent a wheel and watched the potholes ,. I also know sometimes there hard to avoid ,. But like u , I’m gonna enjoy this look for a while and even if I do get wheels I will stay with the 20s and up the tires to 35.

What are the benefits if the wheels being 20"?
And I love the look. I'll probably just replace the oem tires with another oem set when they wear out..... unless there are better performance tires than the oem ones. Does anyone know of better tires for the oem wheels that would have at least roughly the same life?

I wanna know under what conditions people are “spinning the wheels”. Granted I only have 450 miles but i’ve never come close. I also have a 2008 Volvo C30 which is another fwd, turbo hatch and I can spin the wheels in it much easier. It’s an inline 5 with a little hairdryer turbo but stage I tuned so it’s doing more than it’s stock 224hp or whatever. Anyways, what the hell? If I was crawling in my C30 (which has the same engine as the prior gen focus rs only sold in Europe) if I was crawling in first gear and mashed the throttle the tires would instantly roast. Hell, I could sometimes spin them when already engaged in 2nd. Under what engine and clutch conditions are people spinning wheels?

I can spin mine in 1st and 2nd if at full throttle.

Full throttle? Like, stability off, you’re firmly in 1st already, you mash the throttle? At what RPM do your tires spin? I’m sorta babying my car atm and haven’t tried crawling in 1st and flooring it, but i’ve reved it out a couple times and didn’t come close. Maybe i’m being a puzzy.

Just wait until a cool 45 degree morning. You’ll break the tires loose easing into the throttle after shifting to 2nd.

Mine breaks the tires loose in 2nd, at full boost when wot. I can feel it skating a bit until I shift into 3rd.

Exactly. I can feel the traction control really work in 1st and 2nd.

I'd say it'll start spinning them almost immediately while in first even before much boost is noticed. In 2nd they'll come loose at around 2k or 2.5k at wot especially if it's cool outside. It seems like once i hit 3rd i can mash it to the floor and git without issue.

At first they look good but when the hyped died down, they're mediocre. The OEM on the Sport Touring/Si is so much better.

If I could afford it, I would definitely sell it.
