Hey Guys,

I purchased a new 2018 Civic SI WOP Sedan on Tuesday evening from David Mcdavid Honda in Irving Texas. They did not have the car in their inventory but it was at their sister dealership in Frisco, about 30 minutes away. I completed the paper work and was given a loaner car they said they would have the car in 1-2 days.

The purchase order had a stock and vin number, which I confirmed on the other dealers inventory. I dropped off the checks the next day and was told they were still finishing up the transfer paperwork.

Fastforward to Thursday (car deal was done Tuesday) and my sales guy calls me and tells me they sold the car I was supposed to have and they were working on getting me another. I did some investigating and went to the dealer that had the car and it was still there! I asked if it was available and they said it was. The only this is the car did not have the high performance tires I wanted it had all seasons, a minor yet frustrating thing.

So I called my sales guy and he said they lied and told them it was sold and removed from their inventory and he would get back to me sometime today. He said he was getting his GM involved ect ect.

How would you proceed today? Should I contact the GM directly? Think I can milk this for a better deal?

Best

What kind of paper work?
Purchase order with my trade information, the new car's information down payment, and balance that I financed outside of the dealer. Both checks for the down payment and balance have been given to the dealership and the car is paid for but doesn't exist to me yet. Im in a 2018 2.0 civic EX loaner right now

Gotcha, I would go in there in person and demand to speak to the GM or whoever the manager of that idiotic sales person is and demand some answers. As far as I'm concerned, if the vehicle your put a deposit on no longer exists, they should be giving it back to you and you can take your business elsewhere.

Yeah I'm pretty frustrated at this point and just want to get my new car. Although not putting miles on it is nice and I do have a brand new car. I just have not had time to go in and probably wont until Saturday and we all know how likely it is to speak to a GM on a Saturday. They asked me if i'd consider another color, which I honestly would but I told them hell no, they sold me white so I want white.

this is why you never give the dealership more than a deposit if they don't physically have the vehicle. and never sign any paperwork for a vehicle the dealership doesn't physically have on hand. if you're dealing with a dealer trade, you only need to put down a "good faith" deposit to secure the vehicle, and if the dealership wants more than that, walk away. if the vehicle never makes it to the dealership, then you get your deposit back. it's much easier to get a couple hundred (up to a grand) back than it is to get the whole cost of the car and the paperwork cancelled out.

good luck with everything, but i think that even if things work out for you, it's going to take a long time.

Yeah, I didnt really think about that when I made the deal. I've never bought a new car before so this was a first time deal. I am putting a ton of miles on a car they were planning to sell and the longer I drive it the harder it will be for them to sell. Fucking dealers really piss me off but I guess it is what is. Might have my Credit Union put a hold on the check if they still can. idk.

Unwind the deal now. You can always find what you want since you live in a large city. Because if and when you do get this car, you do not know what type of sabotage the sister dealership will do. You are taking their sale away and a salesperson (or two) will hold a grudge. Happened to me twice different times at different dealerships. Not worth the risk. I don't know why you did not just drive 30 minutes direct to where the car is and do the deal there, unless you got an awesome deal where you went. Even then, the sister dealership will not share all the profit as opposed to selling the car themselves. Get out now.

Man do NOT use Burleson, McDavid or Vandergriff. I have heard positives about Huggins and Honda of Fort Worth but never actually delt with them.

Omg what a nightmare. This happened to me when I was salesman also.
Each dealership has relationship with others, some are dicks and never dealer trade or some are nice and will always give us dealertrade.
What happened with OP happened pretty often.
Sometimes other store will promise to give us the car and change their mind at last minute. As customer you will automatically blame the salesman and dealership, but be patient and work with them.

Okay. I can understand that. My advice is to check the car thoroughly before you drive away or sign final docs. Good luck and when the time comes, enjoy your new car.

Yep. This right here.

also.... They have you in a loaner vehicle at no-charge, they're selling you the car cheaper than anyone else is willing to, and you want to unwind the deal or try and leverage even more discount? Seriously? That's pretty disrespectful, your sales person isn't working for free and he doesn't get paid until you drive off the lot, and he's still communicating with you and being honest.

Some people.

Never said I had a problem with my salesman. I don’t appreciate being lied to and given a different story and different set of time expectations every time I talk to someone.

Originally I was told I would have the car in one to two days, ok fine. After that I was told the car was sold to someone else, even after it was put on my buyers order, ok, trust but verify and went to the other dealer and saw the car sitting on the lot and was told it wasn’t sold. Was then told, that without a doubt I would be in a WOP Si sedan with HPT by end of business Friday and guess what? Didn’t happen. Was then told I won’t be able to be in one until sometime after the beginning of March.

I work in sales and customer service and I’d never give someone an unrealistic expectation or sell someone something that I couldn’t come through with. I simply want the product that was promised to me at the time of sale. I think I’ve been pretty understanding considering how every single day it’s a completely different story from these guys.
