Well small update. Took my car out to run an errand and I can now hear a pretty large rattle coming from somewhere.

I’m going tomorrow morning to the shop that installed it so I can put it up on the lift and hopefully find what it is rattling.

I’m really, really hoping that there’s some contact with the underbody somewhere that is causing the rattling. Because that could also mean it’s causing all of the noise and vibration in the cabin.

The weird thing is that the rattling is intermittent.
The thing I noticed right away when installing is if the clamps are installed in the wrong orientation (nuts on the passenger side), they are a lot closer to the heat shield. I installed with the nuts on the driver side and physically pushed the exhaust around trying to force contact with the shields to make sure there was enough clearance.

We also checked for rattles and contact and we couldn’t make it hit anything.

Which is why I’m so confused by the rattle now.

Fingers crossed that it’s at least some of the vibration/drone cause.

Did you start the car on the lift and check while it's in the air?

Yeah we did. We tightened all the clamps while cold, then started the car and let it run up on the lift. We then tightened the clamps again after the car was fully warm.

After it was warm we tried to rattle the exhaust around and couldn’t hear anything.

Usually things might come look or the clamps get a little undone when driving which is usually why they ask to retighten all clamps again after a good amount of miles

Well tomorrow morning at 11 I’ll be back on the lift.

I really, really hope there’s something that’s making the vibration and drone worse. Because the more I drive with it the more I fall in love with the tone. The CTR with this exhaust sounds mean as hell.

I had some rattling in mine a few weeks after i put it on. it turned out that one of the clamp bolts was touching and rubbing on a part of the heat shield. this was also very random and i couldnt reproduce it by wiggling the exhaust around. I got under the car and saw where it looked like it was really close to the heat shield but not quite touching. I ended up loosening the clamp and turning it some then tightened it down. All was well after that

Good luck with the check up this morning, hopefully you guys find the problem. If not are you reinstalling the stock to to sell the AfE?

Yes if this doesn't make the drone any better then it'll be taken off wednesday and sold. I already have all the original packaging lined up ready to pack it up.

Fingers crossed though..

Just ordered the vibrant ultra quiet resonator. You should take a look (reviews etc.) I will install it next week. Maybe you can wait to see my result before selling your exhaust.

Got back from the shop. Here's where I am now:

-Nothing was loose.
-No leaks.
-One clamp was hitting a bolt that connects to the rear most heat shield. (fixed, clamp rotated)

At this point the car sounds basically the same. My keys still vibrate in the cupholder (albeit a little less, tiny bit less) and the car still drones like crazy from 2.9k to roughly 3.5k.

I've made up my mind at this point. Sucks, because I freaking love the tone of this exhaust. I guess I'm just taking a hit and going back to searching for an exhaust. :(

But if it's so bad can't you send it back? I mean... it has to be something wrong with your exhaust since Afe said they had no such problems before... I mean if thing vibrates in the car, you get head ache because of the drone and you can't talk to the passenger they have to take it back. I would not accept this and if I was foced, I would buy a good microphone for the smartphone and record the sound and show the vibrations...

Doubt they would mess up on their exhaust. There are only so many made that they take a long process to produce it.

I tried. Nether afe or the place I bought it from will take it back. I even offered to pay a substantial restocking fee.

My exhaust is now sold. Off to greddy I go I guess.

Thanks for the help guys. I wish I could have made this work because I can already feel I’m going to miss that tone. Such a bad ass sounding exhaust.
