My VIN was out of range from the B-1-17 bulletin, but they did the necessary repairs (new damper mounts, bolts, etc) and noise went away... for two days... then we had a cold snap and it returned slowly. I was so happy the noise was gone until we were -21 again. I'm going to see if it's gone above freezing, then I'd be happy (we're 90% above freezing in our area all year anyway) . 2017 Si
As long as Honda does not create a revision part, the problem will always come back even if you make the service bulletin B-1-17. Now I hear the noise again when it is 3-4 degrees Celcius but less loud. I hope I will not hear it when it's getting hot!

Just had mine replaced in MA, they know about this problem in the lower 48, and I informed the tech that people were complaining that it wasn't a permanent fix and he smiled and said "maybe they will figure out how to fix winter!"

It is warm here now, and it sounds just fine, but I will update if the temp drops again.

Had the clunking started when it got below zero in Dec. Found this thread and the service bulletin. Brought it in and showed them the service bulletin. They were aware of the issue and said they would replace the mounts despite the bulletin being a Canada issue and my Vin is not covered. Took about 3 weeks to get the parts and a little over an hour to get them replaced. Guy said if the problem returns bring it back in

Had the same issue. Replaced the mounts, still clunking.

Next step is waiting on new rear struts for a complete replacement. Kinda sucks...

If the replacement doesn't fix the issue I don't understand what the point is. I live in Saskatchewan at the moment, its cold here for the next couple of months at least, I guess I'm going to be stuck taking my car in non stop?

Just got my si 3 weeks ago. I drive over speed bump and hear that rear clunking sound which is def the rear suspension. Sometimes just going over bumps or even coming to a rear stop. I thought it was maybe something in the drunk I had moving around in there but that didn't do t haha. Ill take my car in this week to honda

Did you change the rear suspension eventually? Is the problem still present?

Hey guys my 2017 civic Hatchback sport *1.5L* got the right rear strut completely replaced due to it feeling like a brick from brand new. It was making the same clunking noise you guys were getting. Still does some light clunking but now my strut is doing its job. feels way better and every road imperfection is no longer jarring my teeth. the service builtin i found from Montreal really helped them get the ball rolling. and encase any one is wondering my civic is 308892 so guessing any cars around this modal number will likely have this issue as well. if its not fixed you run the risk of breaking the strut, rim or even blow the tire.

And encase any one is wondering when they replaced the strut assembly it also replaced all those parts that the service builtin covers as it came as a single unit rather then bits and pieces. So long story short *clunking noises and regular suspension feeling means replace the dampers and bump stops* *Heavy hitting like you have a pole attached in there and no shock and or sounds like your rim and tire is taking full impacts of road hazards means the strut is bad and the whole assembly needs to be replaced. *

Hope this helps cheers mates.

Sorry just trying to figure out how to post here. Never the less I have a 2017 civic coupe Si. just got the damn thing two weeks ago and from day one I have had the clunking noise in the rear end. I brought it to my dealer here in Winnipeg Manitoba and left it for a week while I was out of town. I was told first that the parts are on back order and would be 6-8 weeks. Then I noticed that the mechanic had stated on the wok order that there was "no bulletins" this even though I had brought in a copy of the one I found on this site. I went back to question the service department and first was advised that the parts were ordered, then I dig a little deeper and find out that HONDA has removed the service bulletin as it does not work. THEY HAVE NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. I was advised that whet they had tried to do to fix it does not work and that the noise will return. My car has gotten substantially worse in just 400km. To say the least I am not impressed with Honda. I have a car that not only sounds like its 20 years old but now I question the safety of the suspension.

Hi sorry to hear that mate. My service department was a little eh about the situation as well but the one i bring it to here in Toronto which is midtown Honda are pretty well on the ball when it comes to issues with your car. perhaps you can try calling the midtown Honda and ask for Sean in the service department he might be able to help you out. he is the guy i dealt with for my Honda basically the fix for mine was replace the whole strut which is likely the same issue for you. I believe the reason Honda is pulling the service bulletin is because they are trying to make a fix for it that is permanent which means a recall will be coming soon. Also what i did when i went to take my car in was i removed every single piece of loose stuff i could get out of my car including bungee strap the spare tire tools since mine was free floating in my car. opening the back seat will also help bring out a clear sound. but i believe your past this stage. If I were you i would suggest asking them to replace the whole strut. make a point of fact that because it is not working right that it is likely causing damage to the whole strut the more you drive it. You can also go the after market route which is buy a 1000$ worth of coil overs and have them installed. some performance shops will even give you a discount if you buy them there and have them installed there.

Its what i plan on doing with my civic regardless. I already have a 2 1/2" thick upgraded sway bars waiting for the suspension upgrade :p no fluid filled dampers no issues as it were hehe. but yea if you really get worried about it demand they pay for a rental till they fix your car. it will make them want to speed up the work and get the car fixed. don't give um back the rental car till you test drove the car as well.

I can say for sure that if your car does what mine did which is sound like the tire is doing all the suspension work then it is a bad strut in general. good way to tst this out is get up on the rear door sil and try to bounce the car it should have a good amount of bounce. if it barely moves then the strut is no good. My hatch would barely even bounce in the passenger side rear when my drivers side would bounce normal with a decent amount of bounce.

Sorry for the long story and the many story's but i always like to give as much info in a post as possible. I answer questions to VW and audi owners on cargurrus and am the top ranked best answer for VW and audi there hehe. also been working on cars for 25 years half of that as a child so i can point out most issues pretty fast since trouble shooting is what i do.

Any ways I hope you get your issue fixxed and soon as i know how annoying it can be.

I got my rear suspension work done at the end of February, but it has been warm since then until last week where it was cold in the mornings. The clunking is still there, it is now more prominent on the driver side compared to the passenger side like before the fix but it's still present.

That's interesting that Honda removed the TSB, hopefully they are working on actually fixing the problem...

I've been hearing the occasional clunk sound when going over sharp bumps. I have even tested at low speed (20km/h) and it still happens. I don't have an Si, but have a EXT Coupe. Only had it 2 weeks and 700kms, so I am still trying to narrow down the specifics, sometimes I almost feel like the sound is coming from the front, other times its definitely the rear.

I almost get the feeling the strut is bottoming out and causing the sound

I wonder if the problem is present with the new suspension HFP that you can change? In Canada, the CIVIC SI 2018 HFP limited edition will be present as early as June. We will not know if she will have the same problem because it will not be cold before the month of November or even December.
