I have high hopes-- Albert Biermann seems like a no-bullshit, smart guy. If he can design and engineer some of the greatest M cars of the last few decades, I'm sure he will make the N great.
Hyundai will have to have a generation of knocking ones out of the park to get me back on their dealership lot. It makes the right sounds... it looks like it can play the part... the numbers sound impressive. Let's see if it can actually be a good car... and not just the day after it leaves the lot, but the year after that... and the year after that. Thats one place Hyundais fail hard IMO. That and while they may check a bunch of boxes... they never seem to do anything all that good. I've been in several Elantras, Genesis sedans and coupes, original and final Tiburons, the last 2 Sonata generations... and they've all underwhelmed me. I will admit to never having ridden/driven a Veloster.
Hyundai has been consistently a 'most improved player' but they've come from crap beginnings so that's not too hard. I've owned one Hyundai and had to have driven/ridden in a dozen over the years. I got rid of the one I owned in 6 months. The rest I did a test drive and passed up or rode in someone else's and was unimpressed. It's hard for me to get excited over a car made by a brand that's been a consistent, though improving 'meh' over the years. We shall see. This one goes well, maybe I'll check them out.
A lot of Hyundai people tend to gush over their cars... over the value if them... their great warranty. It's all well and good. I just never have thought they actually made a *good* car. Adequate? Sure. Ok value? Absolutely. Good...? Never.
(my unobjective opinion as a previous Hyundai owner and many time Hyundai driver/rider)
Honestly, as far as the Stinger goes, (sorry to be this guy, but I have to be) it would be better with a manual option. The Chevy SS is such a gem because you can get a ridiculously powerful V8 sedan with a manual. But, yes, if Hyundai knocks it out of the park, I will happily take one. And based on what I've heard out of Biermann about the N line, it will be damn affordable. I love the philosophy of making brakes good enough in-house in order to save costs. I'm very excited. It may very well be... and I'll happily eat crow if they knock it out of the park.
It'll still take one of those long term tests worth of time for me to say, yes... in fact, this Hyundai is the real deal. By then they'll be 1/2 way through their production cycle.
I'm so jaded though, I wasn't excited at all about Kia Stinger, based somewhat on the Genesis platform as I recall. It seems like to could be a winner but... ugh... I can't get excited about the brands.
Here's to me giving them a fair shake and checking one out one of these days... if they're worthy.
Look at autotempest.com and look up used entries for the SS. You should be able to find a lightly used MT model for a steal considering the depreciation they've undergone recently. But, yes, Albert Biermann is fantastic. I know I'm on a Civic forum and I love my Civic, but I have driven the new Si and I'm not interested in the Type-R, and I was sorely disappointed with the Si simply because of the rev hang. I will not void my warranty or put up with rev hang that bad. The Veloster N will most likely be my next car. What Chevy did (or didn't do) with the SS was a crime. It was on my short list but couldn't find a MT around when they did a 20% off MSRP thing at the beginning of 2017... and the dealers didn't seem interested in finding one for me... and I wouldn't touch an automatic.
I'll have to read up on this guy. He sounds like one hell of a car guy.
Geez, I was going to give my 2 cents, but what he said sums it up perfectly. As stated, wait and see on this 'N'.

3 Doors. The passenger side has two doors. I almost discounted it until I noticed in the video they were opening a rear door on the passenger sideI like the N from a performance/practicality standpoint. I dont like the two doors part though. and the styling over all, specially the interior does not do it for me.
