Has anyone with the PRL SRI taken some IAT readings?

To date, I have only heard of one forum member that has installed the PRL Short Ram Intake. I'm just curious if anyone has done any datalogging before or after an install of the SRI.

PRL doesn't seem to be very keen on releasing data on it, which makes me think that they found it's performance to be equal to or worse than stock. They had verbally stated that it would get better performance than their Stage 1, but unlike their other products, I haven't seen any data to back this up yet.

An intake is not going to get you much performance on it's own on this car. The air is going to be compressed by the turbo which makes it hotter, then through the intercooler to cool it back down before it makes it to the engine. I want one for the sound, but don't expect much performance increase.

One thing I can guarantee is that the IAT with their short ram will be much higher than their Cobra CAI. I understand people's concerns with a CAI and hydro locking, but that is what they make hydro shields for. If you have a turbo engine and put a SRI on it, you are only doing it for the sound and guaranteed to have heat soak.

I have the PRL short ram intake. I'm probably the one you are referring to... As far as IAT readings, I usually get IAT1 temps about 30-50 degrees higher than ambient during normal everyday driving... It can go down as low as 20-25 degrees higher than ambient when i'm on the highway for some time.

The temps are subject to increase on hotter days of the year especially with humidity as a factor. I live in South Florida and temps are only getting hotter as spring and summer is making its way around.

Safe to say the intake bakes under the hood. As expected with it being a short ram, the heat soak from the engine, and the turbocharger right next to it. I purchased the PRL short ram to cold air conversion so i can switch to cold air and vice versa when I want.

With my personal experience with the short ram... Great intake, sounds good and all, but I would say just get the cold air intake instead and you can always put the hydro shield over the filter like @jakabony mentioned.

For those recommending the CAI - do you think that the hydroshield would be sufficient to block heavy spray from deeper road puddles? I don't foresee being submerged over the fog lights but in my area, I do run into thunderstorms that cause large road ponds deep enough to throw very heavy spray. The kind that when you hit them at speed, you can feel the drag. These puddles can go on for several meters at a time.

I also run into deeper snow sometimes. Not sure how that would affect me with a CAI?

I know Injen actually makes a pretty good hydro shield... I've seen people put up several videos on youtube testing the effiency of the shield and pouring water over it and the the shield deflects all the water. Also putting the shield over the filter and completely submerging the filter under water and it would take some time for the water to fully seep through the shield. Look it up.

Only question I have is... Do the shields restrict the airflow... :hmm:

Seeing where the placement of the filter is on the CAI, you would have to go through some serious water to risk hydrolock. It is tucked behind the wheel well and above some thick lower shielding.
