Honda Civic 10th gen Rear Suspension Clunking 20180131_183911

After changing both damper mounting base, both damper cap and both bump stop, the problem is still present. So I left my car at Honda to check thoroughly with a steelman tool to listen if the noise came from suspension. Finally after the test that confirmed that the noise came from the rear suspension, Honda still phoned Honda Techline and the Tech told him that honda was aware of the problem because I was not the first that it happens even after changing part. It ordered to stop his investigation because even if it changes the suspension or the damper mounting base, the noise will come back immediately in cold weather. So as long as he will not create a replacement part to fix the problem, I will have to live with and wait for the reminder or a new service bulletin.

It is not dangerous for safety but very noying to hear on a new car.

My wife has a civic EXT 2016 and no noise come with the rear suspension, it's only on civic SI with adjustable damper.

I would say that everyone who has the same problem as us should go to Honda to work on finding a solution.

Plainte: toc toc noise from the rear. Ha ha ha

That's too bad. I was sure the technical service bulletin would take care of this problem.
I didn't bring my car yet for this trouble. Was your car DIV included in the technical service bulletin?

Thank you for the feed back

Not my NIV was not in service bulletin B-1-17, but since my problem was the same, they proceeded to replace the part anyway.

I hope they will fix it soon

Hello, I have a SI - 2017 and the weird noise from the rear suspension (exactly like the video posted earlier in this topic.
I went to the dealer this week and they performed the service bulletin B-1-17. The issue is now solved. I live in Canada so I'm use of cold temperature. Hope it help!

I have a 2018 and it does it.
My 2018 does it as well, vin ends in low 800s build date of Oct 17. Noticed that once I put winter 17" wheel set the noise is much less noticeable. I will be watching for a tsb on the '18s

Me I did not change anything, the problem came back 2 days later. That's what the technician has changed?

Really!? On my side the Service bulletin seem to improve a lot. I put 120km on the car since the fix was done and it s day and night compare to before. This week the temperature was between -10 to -15 degree so i think it was representative. I can still ear a small clunk noise when i hit big pothole but for me it s normal winter noise (all the cars does that sounds).
I ll continue to put some miles on the car and let you know if the noise start again...

Was your VIN involved in the service bulletin? It's really weird that you do not hear the noise anymore and for me it does not change anything. Even I would say that I hear it louder than before. Please let me know if your noise will come back or not. At which dealer did you go?

I believe it was involved in the bulletin if they accept to perform it. How can i verify it?

I took my car to the dealership last week. They diagnosed the noise to be the problem from the TSB. They did not have the parts in stock though so they ordered them and I'll have to go back when they arrive. My VIN was not in the range of the TSB but they will do it anyways. They were well aware of the TSB and have done it already on other Si's.

My VIN was out of range from the B-1-17 bulletin, but they did the necessary repairs (new damper mounts, bolts, etc) and noise went away... for two days... then we had a cold snap and it returned slowly. I was so happy the noise was gone until we were -21 again. I'm going to see if it's gone above freezing, then I'd be happy (we're 90% above freezing in our area all year anyway) . 2017 Si
